Pack Takes First One On The Road 62-52

tiaStanding strong in their first road contest of the season, the Wolfpack toughed out a 62-52 win against the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion University. NC State (4-1) held ODU (0-3) to 34.6 percent shooting in the game, a season best for the Wolfpack defense.

Led in scoring by Tia Bell and Marissa Kastanek who scored 12 points apiece, the Wolfpack took advantage of a short ODU bench, and used a persistent defense to get into the locker room at the half leading 32-25. Much of the same continued in the second half with a tough defense from the Pack as they out-rebounded the Monarchs a total of 40-38, and caused a total of 24 turnovers.

ODU lost at home for just the 17th time since the 2002-03 season. In remembrance of Coach Kay Yow, the Old Dominion Monarchs showed a lot of respect and class, wearing pink jerseys.

The road tests for the Lady Wolfpack continue over the holiday break. The Pack will head out to Nashville, TN on Wednesday to participate in the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament, and will take on Northwestern State at 4pm. The following day, State will take on either the host Vanderbilt Commodores or the Governors from Austin Peay.
