The city of Los Angeles has already finished celebrating their 2010 NBA Finals victory, now it’s Raleigh’s turn.
Josh Powell, a center for the Wolfpack from 2001-2003 before jumping to the NBA, has been one of few Pack players to have found success at the pro level in recent years. Josh jumped around from team to team before finding a home in LA with the Lakers where he’s now won back-to-back championships. Although he’s been nearly 2,000 miles away, Josh has never forgotten about Raleigh, where the Wolfpack coaching staff helped groom him into a true NBA talent. Powell and his agent Jamie Knox have been very active in keeping close to the Wolfpack family through varies sources, including right here at PackInsider.com.
This offseason Powell is going the extra mile to reach out to the Wolfpack fans in Raleigh. On Friday, August 20th Josh will be kicking off what is being dubbed as “Championship Weekend” in Raleigh. It will begin on Friday where him and fellow Atlanta, Georgia native Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) will be hosting a night of bowling at AMG’s Pleasant Valley Lanes in Raleigh. The event will begin at 9pm and to until 2am. Former Pack players and maybe even some current ones will be making an appearance. Everyone is invited and the cost is only $10 (which includes a free game of bowling.)
If you can’t make Friday night, that’s ok, because Josh is turing right around and hosting a giant championship extravaganza. From 9pm to 2pm you are invited to head downtown to the Center City Marriott off of Fayetteville St. to spend an evening with the stars, including Josh, other Wolfpack greats, Dwight Howard and other NBA stars. A portion of the proceeds will go to “Josh Powell’s 21 Reasons to Give” foundation.
Oh and we’re not done yet. From the 20th to the 22nd Josh will be hosting his first annual ‘Back to School Basketball Camp.” The camp will feature Josh himself, Dwight Howard, and will be teaming up with former NC State players Jeremy Hyatt and Mark Davis (DRIVE Athleteics) to put on the camp (for girls and boys ages 7-18) which will be held at Sanderson High School from 10am to 2pm.
