NC State’s 2011 class already has two quality players committed in Joseph Uchebo and Tyler Harris, but head Coach Sidney Lowe is never done looking for some serious talent to add to his ball club. With scholarships to give it’s looking as if there may be two more players the Wolfpack staff are hoping to land in the near future.
2011′s Christian Garrett and DeAndre Daniels are not only friends, they’re teammates, and very talented teammates at that. Hailing from the California, the duo decided to take their games east to IMG Academy where head coach Andy Borman assured them that they’d get the proper exposure and training needed to reach their potential at the next level. There’s no doubt they’ve gotten that exposure, especially Garrett who was a little known guard before making the move. “Now I’m being recruited by NC State, Alabama, and Virginia.” said Garrett who is a big 6’5 heady point guard who is just starting to be recognized.
Daniels, on the other hand, was already a well known commodity in the college basketball world. The 6’8 forward is a post-grad who can score from anywhere on the court and had been courted by major schools even before his move to IMG.
“DeAndre is a great player. He’s 6’8 and can do it all on the basketball court and he’s really fun to play with. We’re close friends on and off the floor.” said Garrett of his 5 star teammate who has already taken official visits to Oregon, Kansas and reportedly Kentucky.
NC State has been pushing hard for both Daniels and Garrett since this summer when Larry Harris first had contact with Garrett’s step-father and expressed NC State’s interest. Since then it hasn’t been only Harris on the case, head coach Sidney Lowe and Monte Towe have also made their way down to Florida to visit the two stars. With NC State on both of their lists and the Wolfpack eager to land them, they’ve decided to take a visit to Raleigh together on December 19th when State takes on Arizona in the RBC Center, according to Garrett.
“We decided to take the visit together since NC State is recruiting both of us pretty hard. We wanted to go together since we’ve talked about playing together in the future. It’s definitely a possibility.” Garrett told us.
That possibility has NC State fans ecstatic. With senior Javi Gonzalez leaving next season, Garrett would be a nice fit alongside Brown and Harrow creating one of the most athletic backcourts in the ACC.
“The NC State coaches have talked to me about how I’d fit well alongside Ryan and Lorenzo…I’m a bigger guard and a lefty. I’m an athlete who likes to get to the rim and finish, but the main part of my game is distributing. I like to distribute and play my role as a point guard.” he said.
Daniels would also be a nice finishing piece to the puzzle for NC State. With Tracy Smith moving on next season, Lowe will be forced to move players around, allowing a five star player like DeAndre Daniels to fit right in if he were to commit. But this is all just speculation and hopes for the Wolfpack fans who will have to wait until December 19th to see if the duo enjoys their time in Raleigh.
Garrett did not specify when he wanted to make his decision, only that he liked NC State a lot and they were one of the schools coming at him the hardest. The same goes for Daniels who is supposedly using his last official visit in Raleigh. Daniels is a five star who is being recruited hardest by NC State, Kansas, Texas, Florida and Kentucky. According to IMG’s coach Andy Borman, Daniels is fully academically qualified and could enroll at a school in January (2nd semester) where he would likely redshirt, practice with the team and be an immediate impact guy by the time next season arrives. According to those we’ve talked to, Daniels and his father are looking for a good situation where this could play out without any hitches, and a place that could accommodate such a transition.
So what do you think Wolfpack Nation? Let us know below in our comment section, or ask us any questions you might have.

Waa Waa Weeee WA! I like hearing this. nice scoop boys!
"We decided to take the visit together since NC State is recruiting both of us pretty hard. We wanted to go together since we've talked about playing together in the future. It's definitely a possibility." Garrett told us.
**just wet my pants. Daniels is a stud.
State fans HAVE to show up in force on Dec. 19th v Arizona! Let's show these guys what the ACC's about!
man…you guys are always on top of things! These 2 commitments could start a real domino effect for not only a great team next year, but really get the attention of big name recruits around the country! I hope this isn't these guys just coming for a free trip, but I will reiterate what ppack said: Wolfpack Nation has to be out in full force this Sunday! Maybe we could even get a chant going for these guys like we did for CJL last year…
The atmosphere in Raleigh will pale in comparison to the atmosphere he saw at Rupp. Loved his comments after the UK game. Said it was like an NBA franchise. You'd be crazy to turn down Cal and the Cats if you were a top recruit now. Why would you not want to play with Teague, Gilchrist, Davis, Knight, Lamb, Miller, Liggins and possibly the most talented college team of ALL-TIME?
Not a Kentucky board. Go troll elsewhere.
All College Message Boards are KENTUCKY BOARDS!!
Can't wait for Calipari to leave your program in suspension. Most corrupt coach in all of college hoops.
David if cal was coaching your favorit team and getting all these recruits to come play … you would be kissing his a** … enough said
Nice work with the scoop on this one PI. With word spreading that Daniels will enroll next semester we really need to make a huge impression going against some HEAVY hitters in this battle. I think our advantage is that we are willing and have the room to take on the package deal. Haven't heard Daniels list us in most of his recent interviews though, so Dec. 19th should be a big date if he indeed makes it up.
I know the atmosphere in Rupp was crazy but think about the number of shots he would likely take a game if he went to kentucky vs. nc state. At State he would make a bigger impact and that will also be reflected in his stats. If he wants a decent amount of pt immediately he'll come to state. We just have to get out there on the 19th and show these guys some love!
^Jonathan, not sure if I follow your logic in the Kentucky – NC State comparison. Ask Terrance Jones and CJ Leslie who has had the better opportunity to make an early impact (granted Jones has shown he is much more polished at this point in their careers). Also, our frontcourt appears to be pretty loaded with Howell, Wood and Leslie guaranteed to get heavy minutes and guys like Uchebo, Painter and Vandy getting minutes against bigger lineups. Daniels is a perimeter oriented forward (think of a better Luke Cothron). It could be tough to have him and Leslie on the floor at the same time. At UK, I doubt Daniels would crack the starting lineup, but it would probably be a rotation of A. Davis, Gilchrist and Daniels at the 3 and 4 spots. I'm sure our staff will lay out their plan for Daniels this weekend.
PI, you mentioned a couple of days ago that you thought Daniels would be visiting in January. Have you been hearing the same reports that he is going to enroll for the spring semester as some of the other sites have been reporting? Thanks.
Cambyman49er,
Originally Daniels was going to visit in January. This was because IMG tries to limit their kids visits during the season, however b/c of Daniels circumstances (post-grad who is academically cleared) they have moved the visit up to the 19th. It's in the article.
"The same goes for Daniels who is supposedly using his last official visit in Raleigh. Daniels is a five star who is being recruited hardest by NC State, Kansas, Texas, Florida and Kentucky. According to IMG's coach Andy Borman, Daniels is fully academically qualified and could enroll at a school in January (2nd semester) where he would likely redshirt, practice with the team and be an immediate impact guy by the time next season arrives. According to those we've talked to, Daniels and his father are looking for a good situation where this could play out without any hitches, and a place that could accommodate such a transition."
I don't think we (UNC) have a shot at Daniels, but I think Kansas will get him. I just hope he doesn't go to Kentucky. I can't stand Calipari and the Big Blue Nation. GO heels
GOIN TO UK WOULD BE A GREAT THING TO DO
Let's see here, if Daniels comes to UK, he'll be:
1: Treated like a celebrity EVERYWHERE he goes.
2: Playing with the best of the best (Gilchrist, Teague, Davis, Wiltjer, Liggins, Miller, Knight, Jones, Lamb, Vargas, Hood, Poole, etc).
3: Playing his home games in front of 24,000 EVERY night and 24,000 will also come to his first practice (Big Blue Madness) and 200-300 of them will camp out for a week to see it.
4: Be playing for the winningest team of all-time.
5: Be a part of a team that could win the school's 8th National Title.
6: Playing for the Coach who sends more kids to the NBA (Coach Cal).
7: Followed on twitter and Facebook by THOUSANDS!!!!
The list is never ending. Kentucky is a stepping stone to the NBA.
^Dude, Jones is one and done. You lost your credibility right there. We don't even have to get into the Calipari-sleezy discussion. I believe that's been addressed before.
As a counter to my earlier argument, with Liggins and Miller included with the current freshman commits, PT could be a struggle at Kentucky too. Look for Kansas and Texas to be the heavy competitors here.
Thanks for the response PI. I definitely skipped the last paragraph.
Go Away!
If they don't care about winning a championship let them go to NCS.
^ Billy, in the coming year NC State will have as good, if not better chance of winning a championship than Kentucky. Why? Because you need experience to win in college basketball. Sure talent can get you to the tournament, but when the going starts getting tough, freshmen fold. While Terrance Jones, Brandon Knight and company bolt for the NBA b/c of Cal's coaching (or should I say control over the media hype), State will be sitting with two of maybe teh best guards in the ACC, an ever maturing CJ Leslie, one of the best 3 point marksmen in the nation and a frontline of upper classmen. Add Daniels to that mix and you're looking at something Kentucky could never build. A team with talent AND experience.
Kentucky will have experience.
Miller and Liggins will be seasoned seniors. Lamb has experience. Vargas will have experience. Poole is getting experience. Knight, if he returns, will have experience.
Couple that with the greatest class of all-time and why would you NOT go to Kentucky?
Jheesh, look at Cal's track record with elite recruits. Don't say it happens everywhere, either. Look at what Roy is doing to Harrison Barnes, and it's not like NC State is faring too well with their "elite freshmen" (39 point loss at Wisconsin???)
Wow. Hadn't realized NCS lost by 39 at Wisconsin. Normally Wisconsin barely scores 39 in a game. What happened there?
Didn't 'Ol Roy and Harrison Barnes beat UK this year?
Tough to win when four guys foul out. And yeah, considering we shot 38% from the field, had four guys foul out, and dealt with Harrison Barnes' best game to that point, a two point loss on the road in Chapel Hill … well, I can live with it. We're the better team, we're ranked higher, we'll go further in March and we have a better future.
Point remains, there is absolutely no reason for an elite recruit with an offer from Calipari to go anywhere else.
"Point remains, there is absolutely no reason for an elite recruit with an offer from Calipari to go anywhere else."
One reason comes to mind. If said elite recruit doesn't want all of their wins vacated at the end of the season then they may choose a cleaner program.
This is great news. I can't wait to hear how the Daniels + Garrett visit turns out. Hopefully we can put on a great show vs. Arizona, and show these guys what Wolfpack basketball is all about!
Nice to see Kentucky fans have started to troll NC State sites. Guess you guys are a bit worried that Cal's crooked tactics don't work on ALL the elite talents, i.e., Leslie.
Calipari's greatest gift to Kentucky will be the record amount of sanctions that will hit that university after his departure.
WHY ARE YOU WORRIED THAT CAL IS GONNA LAND ANOTHER PLAYER …. MUST BE
This is good, 5 years ago you would have never had anyone from kentucky come on to an NC State board talking about how kids that NC State was recruiting should come to Kentucky. It just shows the type of players that NC State is in the fold for now, thats progress, landing those players is even more progress, and translating that talent to a championship team is the final product. Lowe is showing that he can get to steps 1 and 2, the biggest question is step 3. If he can get Daniels and Garrett, Lowe will have the 3rd most talented team in the ACC next year hands down. When was the last time we've been able to say that?
The fact that you kentucky fans are here means that you smell blood in the water. You can list all the reasons why a kid would go to Kentucky and thats great but it still doesn't undermine the fact that you see us as a threat because you're here defensively.
In regards to the few emails we've received saying that other NC State recruiting sites are reporting that Daniels is not making the trip and instead going to Texas….
We are standing by our information and our story. Daniels, his father and Garrett should be at the RBC Center when State takes on Arizona…if he's not, it will be a surprise to us, to Garrett and to the NC State staff.
In true fashion, from what I hear from the inside, DD will not go to Texas and the fact that he won’t be at NCS today came as news and you are right…it was a surprise to coaches and to Garrett, who lives with him. Garrett, a deeply religious and faith filled kid from what I hear is from an awesome family, and they are honoring their comittment to visit 100%. I read somewhere that Dave Telep thinks DD is helping his friend get face time with coaches. I was around in July when Coach Harris met Garrett’s stepfather. They were watching the kid get abused by his AAU coach and Harris took a liking to the Garrett’s attitude and interior strength and began following him months ago, seeing tremendous potential. Harris thinks he’s the kind of kid you want in a program. Apparently, the kid has hit his stride at IMG with coaches who believe in him and is playing the role of PG with finesse, talent, and strength. Doesn’t every kid blossom when a coach believes in him? His stats and perfomances have been solid at IMG. I know. I’ve seen some games. Telep says he’s not a high major player well he already turned down an offer to go to UTEP. Tim Floyd in most peoples minds is a high major coach so uhhhh……Dave Telep are you saying Floyd’s an idiot? Or maybe you’re saying you played the game and are a well respected coach? Oh…you couldn’t say that…you’re a sports writer making a living off the backs of KIDS! I wouldn’t be so hard except I found out that Telep is friends with the kids AAU coach who has a hard on for a kid named Cezar Guerrer…the PG…and would do just about anything to get that kid committed somewhere other than Western Kentucky. Guerrero’s only REAL offer at this point. Are any of us new to grown ups and AAU coaches making back door deals that hurt kids and help others? C’mon. It’s pretty disgusting. I met Garrett after an IMG game. He’s humble, smart, and considerate. High major programs need ALOT more of that. And, BTW…Alabama is all over the kid and Daniels has already pulled out on them. If DD were trying to HELP his friend I’d say he wouldn’t have dissed the coaches here and his buddy by backing out last minute…THAT is NOT helping. In fact, if Garrett weren’t such a great kid the coaches could have gone sour on him instead of making sure he is at today’s game. These 2 boys are about as different as night and day.
In before the "we didn't want CJ Leslie at Kentucky anyway" comments.
Why are the Ky jack***** on our board?! Go be an ********* somewhere else
5 to 1 odds that each of these KY trolls:
Have never been in a UK classroom.
Spend more than 3 hours a day on message boards.
LOL THEN WHY U ON HERE THEN
Kentucky wants DD now to use him because they NEED him. what about next year?
If you’ve never been in this situation I think it’s fair to say you can’t comment and tell a kid where you think he should go
to actualbasketballplayer….you are sooo right!
ok all this hate towards kentucky and calipari is just stupid and yeah i might be a die hard kentucky fan but when you guys found out that kentucky was in the race for daniels you guys started these ridiculous comments towards us ….. and trust me we really dont care what you guys think… if daniels goes to NC STATE thats great good for him …. if he comes to KENTUCKY then thats good to. we dont say one thing about nc state being in the race .so my messeage to all GROW THE **** UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its great to see kids get a chance to shine!
I agree!
