Basketball Update (7/9): 2012 McGary Gets Offer, Purvis Sets New Date

NC State offers Mitch McGary
According to Rival’s Clint Jackson NC State recently offered 2012 PF Mitch McGary. McGary is the nations 5th best player who is known for his outstanding motor and all around game. McGary can shoot, rebound and has a frame already built for college basketball. Mitch now holds offers from Arizona, Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana, Kansas, Marquette, Miami, Texas, Xavier, Kentucky, UNC, Memphis and NC State. Here is the ESPN rundown and a video from CityLeagueHoops TV.

Purvis Sets New Timetable
Rodney Purvis is likely the #1 target for the Wolfpack in 2012. His blend of size, speed and scoring ability has every coach in the nation drooling over his talents. But only Duke, Missouri or NC State will have the privilege of welcoming him to their university. We reported earlier that Purvis set an announcement date of February 14th (both Valentine’s Day and his birthday), however recently Evan Daniel from Scout.com said (via Pack Pride’s twitter) that has changed and now he’ll be making his final choice at the end of August.

All we’re hearing is positives when it comes to NC State and Rodney Purvis. Rodney likes Coach Gottfried and likes playing close to home. Duke is a player but those we’ve talked to around Duke (writers/reporters) have all said that they feel State leads regardless of what Purvis is saying publicly. Here is what Daniels had to say in a recent free article.

I don’t think Louisville is one of Rodney’s top three.

well you must have missed the interview a while back … he even said it his own self…

Actually, they are not.  Missouri is the third school.  Purvis eliminated Louisville and Kentucky.

    Hey PI,

I know Purvis said awhile back that he wanted to wait until February so that he could see the style of play at Missouri and NC State.  Does this decision to move his decision up mean he is more than likely picking Duke?
