Back in October of last year, 3-star 2016 Safety Tim Glass decided to run with the Wolfpack. Even though Cincinnati, Charlotte, East Carolina and UVA offered Glass, it was the first school that offered him that left the lasting impression.
“My recruitment began at the beginning of my 10th grade year. NC State really liked me and I started going to some games. During my Sophomore season I went up to NC State for a visit, and Coach Doeren offered me in his office,” said Glass. “That was my first offer, and then later on that day Cincinnati offered me, and the rest came after that. I committed the week after they played FSU. That week it was on me a lot, and that weekend during the game I just knew that it was where I wanted to be. I called Coach Doeren the week after and let him know that I was verbally committing.”
Glass, who plays football at George Washington in Danville, Virginia, cited quite a few reasons to me for choosing NC State.
“The coaches treat everyone like family. They are on a mission to win,” said Glass. “I really love that about them. They are on the rise right now. For one, it’s close to home, and that played into my decision as well.”
I feel like every player that commits to NC State refers to the NC State football program being like a family. After hearing that enough, you begin to assume that every recruit says that about the school they choose. Glass assured me that there is something unique about the way that the NC State coaching staff welcomes you into the fold.
“Every coach there becomes close to you. At a lot of schools, there is one or two coaches that you get close with, but at NC State it’s the whole staff. They all build a really good relationship with you on and off the field. It’s just out of this world,” said Glass. “That can be like my second family. The way they treat you is just different from other schools. Every coach has a hand in your decision. All of them came to me with open arms. When I first went on my visit, everything clicked.”
Glass (6’1″/206) fits the mold of the current starting Wolfpack secondary. He’s over 6’0″ tall and weighs over 200 pounds.
“They really love having size at the defensive back position. They want defensive backs that are big that can move and make plays with the ball in their hands,” said Glass. “They want them to be able to hit, but they also want them to be able to cover. They want the whole package.”
For Glass, the athletic package is there. His goal between now and when he arrives in Raleigh is to get his mind right.
“I need to continue to improve in the mental aspect of the game,” said Glass. “I have the athletic ability to do whatever they need. My goal is to get my mind ready for NC State.”
