NC State offers 2018 5-star Punter Paxton Brooks

Published

on

Is NC State trying to position themselves to become the new ‘Punter U’? AJ Cole III is entering this season with the 4th best punting average in school history. His 4,854 yards is 11th all-time at NC State and 38% of all his punts have been downed within the opponents 20. If you project Cole out, he will rank as one of the best punters in school history and will likely get a real shot in the NFL. But Doeren isn’t resting on his laurels here. He’s going out and trying to get an understudy to AJ Cole.

Just yesterday, NC State offered Paxton Brooks. This kid is a 5-star punter out of South Carolina.

As you can see from the highlights, Brooks is also a decent kicker and could slot in as NC State’s FG kicker if he can improve accuracy. As of now he is ranked as the #97 kicker according to Kohl’s Kicking rankings.

Brooks recently attended camp with Kohl’s and here is what they had to say.

Brooks recently attended the 2017 National Scholarship Camp. He repeatedly hit 50-60 yard blasts and he built upon his dominant performance at the Southern Showcase Camp in May. Brooks again was a dominant punter and performer. His long frame makes him an attractive prospect as a D1 punter. Brooks’ FG’s and KO’s show flashes of big potential as well. His strength is in his punting. Brooks earned the 2nd spot to the Under Armour All-American Game by winning the punt off against the top players at this national event. He has all the tools to become a great college P/KO specialist!

As of now it seems as if Wake Forest is his other major offer, while South Carolina, Stanford and Coastal Carolina have all been watching him closely.
