NC State vs. UNC : A Closer Look at the Numbers
Just how close was the State/UNC game last night? Closer than you think. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers. The Good -NC State matched one of the nation’s top rebounding teams 40-40 on the boards. This stat in itself should let you know that the Wolfpack competed hard against the Heels. They battled for every board and really took away their biggest advantage. -UNC makes their living in the paint. With a big time front court including NBA prospects Tyler Zeller and John Henson it’s pretty likely that they’re going to beat you in the middle. Last night...
Marshall Leads UNC Past State 86-74 (with highlights)
UNC 86 – NC State 74 Boxscore  Carolina used a career high 22 points from Kendall Marshall and some dead-eye 3 point shooting to take down the Wolfpack 86-74. If you would have told Mark Gottfried that you would outscore the UNC front court and you would tie the Tar Heels in rebounds, he would have taken it and felt pretty good about his team’s chances to win. What he wouldn’t have been expecting was a red hot shooting night from the Heels worst shooter, Kendall Marshall. Marshall was outstanding tonight, finishing with 22 points, 13 assists and zero turnovers....

N&O: ACC Reprimands Karl Hess for Ejecting Wolfpack Legends (kind of)
This didn’t just go away like the ACC was hoping. The Karl Hess ejecting of Wolfpack legends Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta was national news on Monday and had Wolfpack fans everywhere in a frenzy. Congrats Pack fans, we forced the ACC’s hand, but as we all expected they turned over a joker. The N&O’s JP Giglio wrote this today: In the email to N.C. State, Hess wrote: “They were ejected for excessive demonstration on several calls as they came right up to the scorer’s table. The policeman at the end of the FSU bench was warned that their continual...

Mark Gottfried Press Conference Before UNC
“I think our players felt bad about how they played against FSU and we watched film yesterday, we talked about a lot of things. I think our guys will be very excited with a lot of energy on Tuesday night.” “Our practices are always very demanding, we are now late into Feb. and there is a fine line between me putting them on the end line and punishing guys and understand that the die is cast somewhat with your team. We are who we are. We have to get better in certain area and improve on certain things. My mindset...

Enough is Enough: A Message to All Wolfpack Fans
This is a message from the PackInsider staff to the die-hard/fully dedicated Wolfpack fans. If you don’t fall in that category, no need to waste your time with this one. __________________________________________________________ There are two types of people in this world, proactive and reactive. Most of us fall into the reactive category simply because it’s easier, more natural. But reactive people are rarely difference makers. This isn’t an article about the NC State basketball team. This is an article about NC State basketball fans. It’s an article calling fans to step back and take a look within. I’m not questioning the...

NC State to Celebrate Corchiani and Gugliotta on Tuesday
So a day after referee Karl Hess decided to make point and toss out two NC State greats for arguing with him from the stands, NC State decides to recognize those same two greats (along with the rest of their 1989 team) on Tuesday before the Carolina game. Sure, Debbie Yow can’t say anything publicly about the incident or she’ll likely receive a fine, but she’s saying enough with this gesture. As a Wolfpack fan alumni I’d like to say thank you to Debbie Yow for standing up for our school. You are certainly the leader Wolfpack fans have been waiting for. Here is...

Karl Hess Shows off his Insecurities, Tosses Out Gugliotta and Corchiani
CBS Sportsline with a blog post so great I had to post it in it’s entirety, but first I’d like to give my two cents. I’ve watched Karl Hess referee for a long time and it’s hard to say that he’s a consistent referee. He is one who allows his ego and his emotion to get in the way of the job he’s paid to do. He allows fans to get in his head. These are telltale signs of insecurity, Karl. So honestly it doesn’t surprise me that he puts his insecurities on display and tosses out some fans who...

NC State Falls Flat Against FSU, 76-62
Game Summary: Raleigh, N.C. – NC State dug itself into a hole in the first half, shooting just 20.7 percent from the field, and was not able to recover from an 11 point halftime deficit, falling 76-62 to No. 20 Florida State. The Wolfpack falls to 18-9 (7-5 ACC) with the loss, while the Seminoles move to 19-7 (10-2 ACC). “I’m disappointed,” said NC State head coach Mark Gottfried. “We all go to work sometimes and nothing goes your way, we were having one of those days. I didn’t think we were as mentally tough as we could have been....

Game Preview: NC State vs. Florida State
NC State vs. #20 Florida State 1pm | Feb. 18 | RBC Center, Raleigh Game Preview: NC State plays host to the #20 ranked Florida State Seminoles today in a game that is another must win for the Wolfpack. If the Pack can pull off the upset at home then they’ll set themselves up nicely for an at-large bid in this year’s NCAA tournament. With a home contest with UNC on the horizon, this is one of two chances the Pack has left to knock off a ranked team. Florida State hasn’t been playing their best recently but have been...

With a big time front court including NBA prospects Tyler Zeller and John Henson it’s pretty likely that they’re going to beat you in the middle. Last night however, that wasn’t the case. The NC State bigs went hard and beat UNC at their own game.  In fact,  State out scored the Heels 42-22 in the paint. I was really impressed by this. I thought in the first matchup State really just took it at UNC and thought they could out muscle them, but in this one they were more creative. They used pump fakes and pivots to get open in the post and used their quickness to lure the Tar Heel bigs away from the hoop. – State only turned the ball over 4 times. Yes, you…
