NC State 87 – Wake Forest 76 Boxscore GAME RECAP NC State used a red hot Scott Wood (23 points) and solid performances from the rest of their starting five to out-gun the Demon Deacons 87.76. It was a true game of runs with Wake striking first thanks to Chase Fischer and Travis McKie doing damage early , but NC State stormed back using Woods hot hand. That had the Pack in it midway through the second half, but it wasn’t until late in the first that State really made their move and it wasn’t until midway through the second that they really got out to a sizable lead. State managed just 2 points off their bench and finished with a close rebounding margain but got very solid play from all 5 of their starters, limited the turnovers and got out on the break where they can be devastating. KEY STATS Wake played well tonight. They shot 50% from the field, 58% from 3 was only out-rebounded by three, but it wasn’t enough as State racked up 19 assists to only 9 turnovers as a team and turned that into 19 fast break points (to Wake’s 4). Player wise you have to look…
Basketball Recruit News
We’ve broke the news nationally when Torian Graham first committed, but only about a month later that commitment was off the table. Then we reported his commitment around Christmas time, only to have to explain to Pack fans exactly what happened and why he was forced to decommit again. Now, thanks to Zagsblog we see that the Graham story isn’t quite over. He is transferring mid year from Arlington Country Day in Florida to Creedmoor (N.C.) Christian Faith Academy and he’s still considering the Wolfpack. According to his guardian, Craig Wilson, four schools are working hardest on the 6-foot-4 wing: N.C. State,...
So Rodney Purvis was selected to the Jordan Brand Classic game in Charlotte, NC on April 14th, however, he was the only Pack player to make that roster. Purvis is ranked as the #2 PG in his class, making him an obvious selection. The real snub here in my mind was TJ Warren who is ranked as the #6 SF in the nation. Who made it in his place? You guessed it, a UNC commit. JP Tokoto who’s ranked as the 13th ranked SF. As you can figure, Tyler Lewis was left off despite the fact that he’s probably out...
Exhale. All of you holding your breathe on the Amile Jefferson decision can relax for a bit. According to Zagsblog.com Jefferson has decided to wait until his season is over before me makes the call on where he’ll be playing next year. According to their sources it seems as if State and Duke are his top 2 at this moment and Amile’s father said Duke was the last to call. “He’s trying to finish up these last few high school games and then he’s going to make a decision,”Malcolm Musgrove, Jefferson’s father, told SNY.tv Monday evening. “I talked to Duke last...
There’s no better way to describe Ricardo Gathers than to call him a ‘beast.’ The guy is big, strong and will have his way with anyone who crosses his path. He’s only 6’6 but his body is already more ACC ready than half of the juniors in the ACC. Sure, the Pack is heavily involved with Amile Jefferson, but Mark Gottfried and company are also looking closely at Gathers. His league ready body and over the top athleticism has coaches from all over looking to add on this late addition. Here is a video courtesy of FiveStarBasketball.com featuring an interview...
Amile Jefferson is showing all why he’s one of the nations most coveted players right now. This past Friday he put out another high scoring performance as his Friends Central team beat Shipley 55-50. Jefferson ended up with 26 points (he had 9 in the first quarter), nearly half of his team’s total points. A source close to the program is telling us that it most likely a tight 2 team race at this point between NC State and Duke. We’re told that the State staff sees it as neck and neck and while Duke has really made a late...
According to Adam Zangoria, Kentucky landed 2013 PF Derek Willis yesterday. It’s Kentucky and they’re getting another top ranked guy so who cares right? Well if you’re a State fan then you should. With this move Kentucky has filled their PF spot, meaning that if they were to land Amile Jefferson (the 2012 PF that they are competing with State and Duke for) would immediately be recruited over. What does this mean? Well it means that Kentucky just got a lot less enticing, and it also sparked talk that this has become a race between NC State and Duke. Amile’s recruiting may be a...
Tyler Lewis (2012 PG): The attention and awards for NC State commit Tyler Lewis keep on coming as he was named 1st team 2012 HoopHall. Why is this significant? Well, at this point it really should just be expected since everywhere this kid goes he’s impressing people. Many thought he’d fade away some when taking on better competition at Oak Hill, but it’s been just the opposite. Lewis has excelled on the big state and is now recognized as one of the top pure PGs in the nation. Here is the Hoop Hall 1st teamers. 2012 Hoophall Classic All-Tournament First...
Recently, one of the top players in the 2013 class, Julius Randle, came down to North Carolina to make a few visits to some colleges that would really love to have his services. He got to take in a State game, half of a UNC game and a Duke game. Randle writes a blog for ESPN called ‘Rappin’ with Randle’ where he talks about his junior season and his recruitment. Here is what he had to say about NC State. After we lost in the Beach Ball Classic my teammates and I went down to North Carolina a day early....
Tyler Lewis is going to be a big addition to the Wolfpack backcourt next season and it’s seems like everyone is starting to wrap their heads around that…even ESPN. This weekend Tyler Lewis and Oak Hill took on Jesuit and simply out powered them 57-50. The win gave them their 2nd major tournament title in two weeks after winning the Chick-Fil-A Classic a week earlier. Tyler ended up with only 10 points on this night, but more importantly took home the tournament MVP. This kid is a wizard with the basketball. Take a look at this video for the highlights...
According to a source close to the team, the #2 player in the 2013 class, Julius Randle, will be visiting NC State today when the Wolfpack take on Western Carolina. Randle is in town to make a whirlwind trip around Tobacco Road. He’s scheduled to visit both UNC and Duke and now we’re getting word that he’ll stop by NC State’s campus to take in the State came with long-time friend and NC State commit Rodney Purvis. There was a lot of talk that Purvis and Randle would end up at the same school when both were in the 2013...
