NC State 87 – Wake Forest 76 Boxscore GAME RECAP NC State used a red hot Scott Wood (23 points) and solid performances from the rest of their starting five to out-gun the Demon Deacons 87.76. It was a true game of runs with Wake striking first thanks to Chase Fischer and Travis McKie doing damage early , but NC State stormed back using Woods hot hand. That had the Pack in it midway through the second half, but it wasn’t until late in the first that State really made their move and it wasn’t until midway through the second that they really got out to a sizable lead. State managed just 2 points off their bench and finished with a close rebounding margain but got very solid play from all 5 of their starters, limited the turnovers and got out on the break where they can be devastating. KEY STATS Wake played well tonight. They shot 50% from the field, 58% from 3 was only out-rebounded by three, but it wasn’t enough as State racked up 19 assists to only 9 turnovers as a team and turned that into 19 fast break points (to Wake’s 4). Player wise you have to look…
Dennis Horner
We’d like to congratulate former Wolfpack forward Dennis Horner was drafted in the 3rd round by the Springfield Armor of the NBA Developmental League. According to the Press of Atlantic City, Horner had been playing in Belgium last season when he realized that he would like to pursue his career closer to home. “I liked (playing overseas), but I just wanted to be with my family,” Horner told the Press. “I didn’t want to go back.” Horner played for State under Sidney Lowe after being recruited by Herb Sendek and was the lone player to stick around from his class after...
When you get a group of former NC State basketball players together, you will hear them describe themselves as a tight-knit group. No matter if the players played in different decades, they will tell you that they are a part of a huge family. The phrase “keeping it all in the family” has become a staple in our culture, and the Wolfpack basketball players have taken it to heart. Currently, former NC State basketball player Jamie Knox is the agent representing 10 former Wolfpack players (Josh Powell, Marcus Melvin, Gavin Grant, Dennis Horner, Farnold Degand, Anthony Grundy, Clifford Crawford, Cameron...
COACH LOWE “I thought it was a great effort by our guys, as far as really hanging in there mentally and fighting and battling till the last basket by Tracy.” “In the locker room we talk about the ‘Loose Ball War.’ When you get lost balls, a lot of the time your going to score.” “We showed great mental toughness and focus. I learned that when we do what we are supposed to do, we can be pretty effective. We’ve shown that we are capable of doing certain things, now can we do that for a 40 minute stretch. I...
JULIUS MAYS TALKS TO PACK INSIDER PI: What is the difference between last year this time, and this year? JM: I feel a lot more confident in myself and my teammates. We’re all on the same page this year. Every guy is about the team and nobody is about themselves. We all feel we have something to prove and nobody has confidence in us and every poll has us coming in last. We want to go out and compete and prove a lot of critics wrong. PI: What is it like to have Scott Wood here? JM: It’s good having...
Last Thursday we had the chance to catch up with NC State Senior Dennis Horner. Last year Dennis posted career highs in minutes (18.9), points (6.4), rebounds (2.8), assists (1.2) and assist/turnover ratio (2.0). Here’s how our conversation went with one of the Pack’s most improved players last season: WPH: Dennis, you showed drastic improvement in your shooting percentage last season in pretty much every category. What do you attribute that to? Horner:I think I was more comfortable in the offense. Coach Lowe also had a little more faith in me to go out and play better and that gave...
