Horner’s Career Day Pushes Pack Past Elon 79-76
Box Score Dennis Horner set a career high with 23 points on a night when the Wolfpack needed every single one of them as they narrowly escaped the upset 80-76. For the first 20 minutes it looked as if the Pack had overlooked a hungry Elon team as they struggled to keep pace with the hot shooting Phoenix. The Elon guards constantly got, and knocked down open jumpers and their big man Adam Constantine had a field day dropping 14 first half points on 7-9 shooting. For the Pack it was senior Dennis Horner who kept them afloat with 14...
Smith, Pack Too Much For Eagles 75-57
Fueled by another dominant performance by Tracy Smith, the Wolfpack rolled over the Georgia Southern Eagles 75-57. In NC State’s annual game at the historic Reynolds Coliseum, they once again showed the intensity, tenacity and execution that they has been keying their success so far this season. Tracy Smith was active early and often as the Wolfpack constantly broke down the Georgia Southern zone with dump-ins to the seemingly unstoppable Smith. The Pack shot an outstanding 56% thanks to Tracy’s 10-12 night, as he finished up with a game high 21 points. When Smith wasn’t scoring, it was the ever-consistent...
Davis, Defense Pushes Pack Past Marquette 77-73
Box Score “It’s going to be hard to keep Josh Davis off the floor this season.” Sidney Lowe’s words in his preseason press conference rang true on Saturday afternoon, as Davis’ high energy play keyed a Wolfpack defensive wave that pushed them past the Golden Eagles, 77-73. Once again NC State looked like two different teams. In the first half the Pack was a step slow, allowing Marquette to get open shots and slash to the basket at will. On offense, there was a sense of confusion and indecision as the Golden Eagles shut down Tracy Smith, allowing the Wolfpack’s...
Wolfpack Goes Cold Against Northwestern 65-53
Box Score For the first time this season, the Wolfpack showed their youth. A more experienced, more disciplined Northwestern team came out and executed, hustled and hit big shots on their way to a 65-53 win over the Wolfpack. After getting into an early 10 point hole, the Wolfpack never could manage to climb out. State came out and immediately attempted to get Tracy Smith going inside, but with the referees allowing them to play in the paint, Smith became frustrated and the Pack struggled to put points on the board. “Yeah it was frustrating. I was just trying to...
Pack Punishes Privateers 69-52
Box Score It took the Pack 30 minutes to get into a consistent rhythm, but once they started clicking, they were hard to stop. Two second half runs (one of 11 and one of 10), both fueled by junior guard Javi Gonzalez, gave the Pack a 15 point lead over New Orleans, that would hold until the final buzzer. With the 69-52 victory, NC State moved to an impressive 5-0 record on the season. The Wolfpack used a similar recipe against New Orleans that they’ve used against their previous four opponents: relentless intensity on defense and a healthy dose of...
Mays, Wolfpack Come On Late, Defeats Georgia State 69-53
The Recap For a young NC State team, they’ll take a win any way they can get it. Playing for the first time all season in the RBC Center and without senior guard Farnold Degand (academic reasons), the Pack faced a veteran ball club in Georgia State, and while they stumbled out of the gate, they came on late to notch the victory 69-53. The Pack went to work early, feeding Tracy Smith on the block for a few easy buckets, but it wasn’t long before Georgia State began sagging men in the paint and forcing the Wolfpack to beat...
New Look Wolfpack Crushes Overmatched Tigers 84-42
The Wolfpack opened up the basketball season on Thursday night with a bang, beating the St. Paul College Tigers 84-42. Although it was only an exhibition game, there was an excitement that filled Reynolds Coliseum, as students and season ticket holders showed up to catch a glimpse of the new look Wolfpack. With plenty of new faces and a brand new up-tempo offense, Sidney Lowe wanted to show the Pack faithful just why he’s been so excited this offseason. Soon after the tip, it was pretty apparent. Tracy Smith went to work immediately, maneuvering in the post and powering to...

Who is Savon Goodman?  Many NC State fans are asking this question today.  The Wolfpack fan base is curious why his name just popped up on their radar on signing day…so late in the game.  Why has no one been talking about this 4-star combo forward?   Well, this morning we give you the answers you’re looking for. Most college coaches haven’t been recruiting Goodman this season, because most of them were under the impression that he would prep next season in order to get his academics in line.  In fact, there was a plan in place for him to go to Brewster Academy next season to prep for a year.  Well, the plan might have changed.  According to Goodman’s head coach Rob Moore at Philadelphia Constitution, he has qualified academically.  Once the word got out that Goodman might be on the market, high level division-I coaches started calling in an aggressive manner. “Since he qualified academically, Savon decided that he wanted to go to college now.  Many kids go prep because they want to better there options.  That’s not the case for Savon.  He has colleges from all the major conferences knocking at his door right now,” said Moore….

Not so fast my friends! Just when you though NC State was done in 2012 after missing on Amile Jefferson, we learn that Gottfried and company are hot on the heels of another 4 star forward. This time it’s Savon Goodman who is still scheduling visits according to Adam Zagoria. N.C. State is now recruiting Savon Goodman, who is still planning visits, his high school coach told @SNYtv — Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) May 16, 2012   Goodman is a 6’6 forward who may seem a bit undersized, but has some serious game. With State now looking to sure-up their frontcourt he could be a great fit and get some real playing time on a team that will likely be a contender for the ACC’s number 1 spot. How many teams can say that? Here is what Zagsblog.com had to say. Rob Moore, Goodman’s coach at Philly Constitution, told SNY.tv Wednesday that N.C. State was now recruiting the 6-6 Goodman and that he planned to take more visits after the dead period ends. He recently visited Seton Hall and Pitt.

Many around NC State University fully expected top 25 recruit, Amile Jefferson, to announce his intentions to attend NC State on Tuesday. The addition of Jefferson would have meant ever more  talent for next season and enough front court depth to help the Pack forget about DeShawn Painter and Tyler Harris, both of whom transferred this offseason. Unfortunately, Jefferson didn’t select NC State and instead chose cross-town rival, Duke. Now, NC State faces a front court short on experience, requiring sophomore Thomas De Thaey and redshirt junior Jordan Vandenberg to step up in a big way. Fist off, let’s just go ahead and spill the beans on the Jefferson recruitment. This one went on forever and information was always different. There were time early on where people around NC State said things like “he’s our” and “we’re not letting this one get away.” And then there were times when we were told “he hasn’t been in communication with the staff as much lately.” and “I think he’s leaning towards Duke.” However, just two weeks ago we got information from two separate sources that Jefferson had made it pretty clear to the those within the NC State program, that State was going…
