NC State 87 – Wake Forest 76 Boxscore GAME RECAP NC State used a red hot Scott Wood (23 points) and solid performances from the rest of their starting five to out-gun the Demon Deacons 87.76. It was a true game of runs with Wake striking first thanks to Chase Fischer and Travis McKie doing damage early , but NC State stormed back using Woods hot hand. That had the Pack in it midway through the second half, but it wasn’t until late in the first that State really made their move and it wasn’t until midway through the second that they really got out to a sizable lead. State managed just 2 points off their bench and finished with a close rebounding margain but got very solid play from all 5 of their starters, limited the turnovers and got out on the break where they can be devastating. KEY STATS Wake played well tonight. They shot 50% from the field, 58% from 3 was only out-rebounded by three, but it wasn’t enough as State racked up 19 assists to only 9 turnovers as a team and turned that into 19 fast break points (to Wake’s 4). Player wise you have to look…
Lorenzo Brown
No single player is more important to this NC State basketball team than Lorenzo Brown. He is the main scoring option, the main distributor and the main defender in the Wolfpack backcourt. If Brown has a breakout season NC State could very well surprise some of their naysayers and make a run in the upper half of the ACC. But that depends on just how ready the sophomore point guard really is. “He’s matured.” said teammate Richard Howell. “He’s older, smarter, he knows what he has to do. He knows this team is depending on him and I think he’s...
Lorenzo Brown has pro athleticism, he’s got serious court vision and now Brown has nearly polished off his game by adding an accurate jumper and the beginning traces of a killer instinct. Check out this highlight reel of Lorenzo as he showcases his entire arsenal against a team featuring some real NBA talent. Brown is finally starting to accept that he can be great and with that mentality the sky is the limit....
If there were any doubts that NC State’s sophomore point guard Lorenzo Brown was a future pro, they’re likely gone at this point. Brown has absolutely blown up this summer. At CP3 camp he was one of the most praised college players in attendance. This past week when the NC State team went head to head with UNC in a friendly game of pick-up it was Brown who the players couldn’t stop raving about. And on Tuesday night it once again the rising sophomore from Georgia was the talk of the town. Last season Brown blended in. He was hesitant...
CP3 Camp just ended and we got a short rundown from some of our friends in attendance. Supposedly 2012 Wolfpack commit Tyler Lewis was spectacular. He not only impressed with his new, stronger frame and his passing, but he also impressed with his leadership. Lewis was on the winning team in the 3-0n-3 challenge AND the 5-on-5 challenge and impressed scouts with his improved all around floor game. As expected Rodney Purvis was above all the rest. His build and advanced game is just above most others at the high school level. We were told that if Rodney didn’t beat...
On how his transition to Raleigh has been… “Phenomenal. One, this is a great town with some great fans, but our staff, myself and our families are all little by little creeping into town. But we’ve been hard at work and it’s been a great transition.” On what made the NC State job appealing… “Well it’s interesting. I went home the other day because my daughter graduated high school in Alabama and I went and was watching the sunset on my boat there and I was wondering why I actually took this job….I’m teasing. When I looked at this job,...
Post-grad PG Alex Johnson adds to the string of commitments landed by new head coach Mark Gottfried this week. Gottfried started it off by adding 2012 five star SG Torian Graham and then surprised everyone with the commitment of 2011 Belgiun forward Thomas De Thaey and now this. Johnson will be leaving Cal State Bakersfield and transferring to NC State for his final year of eligibility. Johnson is a 5’10, 170lbs PG played two years at Cal State Bakersfield before missing a year with an injury. In his junior campaign he returned to action in a big way scoring 13.3...
Ryan Harrow, CJ Leslie and Lorenzo Brown want to change the way you think about NC State Basketball. Sure, they weren’t alive to see the Wolfpack’s glory days, when the road to the ACC title ran through Raleigh, but they’ve been told. They’ve been told over and over again about how it used to be, how NC State used to be more feared than North Carolina and more celebrated than Duke. They’ve also been told that they’re the ones that have been chosen to bring it all back. A 6’0, 155 lbs point guard who makes a living off defying...
