Who is Savon Goodman? Many NC State fans are asking this question today. The Wolfpack fan base is curious why his name just popped up on their radar on signing day…so late in the game. Why has no one been talking about this 4-star combo forward? Well, this morning we give you the answers you’re looking for. Most college coaches haven’t been recruiting Goodman this season, because most of them were under the impression that he would prep next season in order to get his academics in line. In fact, there was a plan in place for him to go to Brewster Academy next season to prep for a year. Well, the plan might have changed. According to Goodman’s head coach Rob Moore at Philadelphia Constitution, he has qualified academically. Once the word got out that Goodman might be on the market, high level division-I coaches started calling in an aggressive manner. “Since he qualified academically, Savon decided that he wanted to go to college now. Many kids go prep because they want to better there options. That’s not the case for Savon. He has colleges from all the major conferences knocking at his door right now,” said Moore….
TJ Warren
Jason Smith has been the head coach at Brewster Academy for the past 12 seasons. He has led the Bobcats to a National Top-1o ranking in 10 of the last 11 seasons, and has won 74% of his games. Smith has had the opportunity to see a plethora of talent come through his program over the past decade, and according to him, NC State commit TJ Warren stands out in the mix. “TJ was very unique. We’ve had a lot of talented players over the past 10 years, including this years Kansas standout Thomas Robinson,” said Smith. ”If TJ’s not the...
A couple of years ago most recruiting analysts had chalked TJ Warren up as a passive player, who possessed a finesse game and hung out primarily around the three-point line. He’s even willing to admit that they may have been somewhat right. Over the past year and a half Warren has attempted to change that perception with a readjustment of his mental game. His Twitter feed is constantly filled with hashtags like #nomercy, #dominate, or #killerinstinct. His mental shift led to a different product on the court. Warren has transformed his game and in doing so, he changed my perception. His tenacity and aggressive...
Rodney Purvis Repping the USA, Picking his Number and Getting a New Highlight Reel There has been a lot going on with NC State’s top incoming freshman, Rodney Purvis. So, let’s get you up to speed. Frist off, Purvis has been invited to play in the USA Basketball Camp. The camp is used to select 12 players that will represent the USA in the 2012 FIBA Americas USA Championship. Purvis will be in camp June 5-12. The coaches who make this selection are Billy Donovan (Florida), Shaka Smart (VCU) and Mark Few (Gonzaga). The FIBA games will be held in...
This year NC State had the most McDonald’s All-American’s they’ve ever had in a single class. They had 3, which is more than rivals UNC and Duke combined. Oh, and it might be four if Amile Jefferson does what everyone in Raleigh hopes he’s going to do and pop for NC State in the coming week. Rodney Purvis, Tyler Lewis, TJ Warren and Amile Jefferson all took the floor for the East team. All of the Wolfpack recruits and commits played well, especially Rodney Purvis had 15 points on 7-15 shooting. T.J. Warren had what I counted as 8 points...
NC State has played well this season, but if there’s one area that they’ve been inconsistent lately, it’s on offense. State doesn’t have any true scorers on their roster. They don’t have the guy who can get buckets both in the paint and from outside. That will change next year when they welcome top 25 recruit and McDonald’s All-American, TJ Warren. Warren is a true scorer in high school. He’s got good size at 6’8, 230lbs and can beat you from inside or outside. But how will his scoring ability translate to college ball? We asked the man himself: “Having the ability...
ESPN just announced this years McDonald’s All-Americans and for the first time it’s quite noteworthy to Wolfpack fans. In fact, not one of the NC State 2012 commits were left off of the roster. Rodney Purvis, TJ Warren and Tyler Lewis were all selected and, get this Wolfpack fans, all put on the same team. And it gets even better. Amile Jefferson, who Gottfried and company are actively recruiting also was selected and also was put on the same team. This is great news for Mark Gottfried who was hoping to make a national splash with his 2012 class. In fact, NC...
Scout.com has released their updated recruiting rankings and unlike ESPNs, NC State doesn’t fall all that ar down. The Wolfpack who have signed PG Tyler Lewis (one of the nations best floor generals), SG Rodney Purvis and SF TJ Warren, are now ranked #5 in the nation, falling two spots form #3. In ESPNs rankings NC State is at #7 with UNC moving to #5. I’m tired of having to call out people for giving UNC benefit of the doubt in a number of differnt categories, but I have to do it again. UNC has only one player better than...
TJ Warren, a 5 star forward, originally from Durham with make his college decision today at around 4pm. The announcement will be made from New Hampshire, where TJ is currently enrolled in high school. His choices…NC State or Georgetown. NC State is very much a player in this situation thanks to Warren’s family. TJ’s dad Tony played for the Pack in the late 70′s and for this reason TJ grew up rooting for NC State. He is also said to be a bit homesick at Brewster and ready to come down south, a little closer to home. Here is what...
