Just how close was the State/UNC game last night? Closer than you think. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers. The Good -NC State matched one of the nation’s top rebounding teams 40-40 on the boards. This stat in itself should let you know that the Wolfpack competed hard against the Heels. They battled for every board and really took away their biggest advantage. -UNC makes their living in the paint. With a big time front court including NBA prospects Tyler Zeller and John Henson it’s pretty likely that they’re going to beat you in the middle. Last night however, that wasn’t the case. The NC State bigs went hard and beat UNC at their own game. In fact, State out scored the Heels 42-22 in the paint. I was really impressed by this. I thought in the first matchup State really just took it at UNC and thought they could out muscle them, but in this one they were more creative. They used pump fakes and pivots to get open in the post and used their quickness to lure the Tar Heel bigs away from the hoop. – State only turned the ball over 4 times. Yes, you…
Tyler Lewis
ESPN just announced this years McDonald’s All-Americans and for the first time it’s quite noteworthy to Wolfpack fans. In fact, not one of the NC State 2012 commits were left off of the roster. Rodney Purvis, TJ Warren and Tyler Lewis were all selected and, get this Wolfpack fans, all put on the same team. And it gets even better. Amile Jefferson, who Gottfried and company are actively recruiting also was selected and also was put on the same team. This is great news for Mark Gottfried who was hoping to make a national splash with his 2012 class. In fact, NC...
There’s no better way to describe Ricardo Gathers than to call him a ‘beast.’ The guy is big, strong and will have his way with anyone who crosses his path. He’s only 6’6 but his body is already more ACC ready than half of the juniors in the ACC. Sure, the Pack is heavily involved with Amile Jefferson, but Mark Gottfried and company are also looking closely at Gathers. His league ready body and over the top athleticism has coaches from all over looking to add on this late addition. Here is a video courtesy of FiveStarBasketball.com featuring an interview...
Tyler Lewis (2012 PG): The attention and awards for NC State commit Tyler Lewis keep on coming as he was named 1st team 2012 HoopHall. Why is this significant? Well, at this point it really should just be expected since everywhere this kid goes he’s impressing people. Many thought he’d fade away some when taking on better competition at Oak Hill, but it’s been just the opposite. Lewis has excelled on the big state and is now recognized as one of the top pure PGs in the nation. Here is the Hoop Hall 1st teamers. 2012 Hoophall Classic All-Tournament First...
Tyler Lewis is going to be a big addition to the Wolfpack backcourt next season and it’s seems like everyone is starting to wrap their heads around that…even ESPN. This weekend Tyler Lewis and Oak Hill took on Jesuit and simply out powered them 57-50. The win gave them their 2nd major tournament title in two weeks after winning the Chick-Fil-A Classic a week earlier. Tyler ended up with only 10 points on this night, but more importantly took home the tournament MVP. This kid is a wizard with the basketball. Take a look at this video for the highlights...
We wrote the article yesterday morning begging you, urging you to stop doubting Tyler Lewis. If you didn’t listen, we understand, heck, his own coach understands. Steve Smith, the head coach at Oak Hill, told ESPN that Lewis was the first kid he’s ever coached that, if you hadn’t seen him play, wouldn’t be selected in a game of pick-up. However, he also said that out of all of his years coaching and out of all of the NBA stars he’s produced, the two best passers he’s ever coached have been Rajon Rondo (of the Boston Celtics) and Tyler Lewis....
Ok, I’m going to come clean. I haven’t been 100% sold on Tyler Lewis. I’ve seen him play so I know he’s a really good high school player, but how will that translate to the next level is something I’ve always wondered. Well, I give in. Tyler Lewis is going to be a star at the next level. I mean, I’ve always thought he was a great passer and a real winner but I’ve been on the border of whether he’d be a real team leading star, or just a good point guard with some leadership skills that plays about...
Stoneridge Prep came into the contest with a 2-1 record with impressive wins over LaHoya Prep and Impact Academy with a tough loss to a very talented Westwind Prep of Arizona. Oak Hill came into the contest with a 3-0 regular season record plus winning its pre-season scrimmage games vs. Fork Union, Massanuttan and Hargrave Military. On paper, the Stoneridge game appeared to be a formable opponent for the Warriors. The Warriors pulled out an 80-64 victory over a well coached and highly skilled team that played hard and executed their game plan nicely. Oak Hill led Stonebridge 17-10 at...
Tyler Lewis and Oak Hill are off to a good start. The NC State commit has been surpassing expectations and shutting up his critics pretty quickly up there. Here is proof, thanks to a video from BallIsLife.com that shows Tyler doing damage against one of the top private schools in North Carolina. He finished with 19 points and 14 assists....
We’ve gotten confirmation from both TJ Warren and Tyler Lewis that they will be heading to Raleigh this weekend to take in the NC State vs. Georgia Tech game and visit with the Wolfpack coaches. That’s good news for the Pack fans who are looking to lock up more talent for 2012. The other good news? Sources are telling us that Rodney Purvis might be visiting as well. This news comes after we were told that Purvis is getting close to a decision and those around him are thinking it could be as early as this week. To add even...
CP3 Camp just ended and we got a short rundown from some of our friends in attendance. Supposedly 2012 Wolfpack commit Tyler Lewis was spectacular. He not only impressed with his new, stronger frame and his passing, but he also impressed with his leadership. Lewis was on the winning team in the 3-0n-3 challenge AND the 5-on-5 challenge and impressed scouts with his improved all around floor game. As expected Rodney Purvis was above all the rest. His build and advanced game is just above most others at the high school level. We were told that if Rodney didn’t beat...
