Yesterday was brutal for NC State fans. First they learned that Trevor Lacey was going pro, then they find out Kyle Washington is transferring. So for all of you toeing the ledge right now, we have some recruiting news that will hopefully put you in a better mood.

According to Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog, Mark Gottfried is in Greece looking for a commitment from 7 foot center Georgios Papagiannis.

Now, I’m not going to act like I’ve seen anything more than a few videos, but this kid is legit. In fact, there are a few coaches that think he’s a potential one and done type guy (From the videos I’m not buying that). He’s 7’1, has a good frame, is bouncy, coordinated, can handle it a bit and can shoot it. Gott is trying to lock him up and is likey the first coach to go over to visit him.

He is also looking at St. John’s, Temple, Oregon, Kentucky and UConn. He is expected to make a decision by June but Gottfried is surely hoping to come home with one in a few days.

Wolfer96 Any rumors about the trip to Greece?  Gott is said to be  talking to Ingram today.  Kind of a short trip overseas.

wolfpack74 Wolfer96 I wouldn’t think that Gott would be all the way over there if there wasn’t some chance of bringing the guy. Or maybe Gott is going to be seeing many european players while he’s over there.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind establishing a good network into europe to keep the players flowing in. In general they seem to have better fundamentals than kids here. It’s not like we haven’t had foreign players before (Evtimov, Atsur, Vandy).

Wolfer96 wolfpack74 Was Gott going to drug him and bring him back on a plane or in the cargo area of a supertanker?  We need some good news for a change.

wolfpack74 most likely not one and done caliber. And if you’re not a top player in europe I would imagine you would get more exposure playing college ball in the US.

He’s a long shot at best.  Rivals does not show any interest in NCState before this magic carpet ride by Gott.  What about getting us a good PG to backup CAT?  He didn’t seem too upset about getting rid of Kyle, so why a big now.  If he is a one and done style player, why come back to the United States.  Just play one year in Europe and then transition to the NBA after that.

I’m imagining this kid and Anya on the court at the same time and we would call them the long arms of the law.

Howard is ranked as the #51 overall player nationally in the 2024 class by Rivals, and the #4 player in the state of Georgia according to ESPN. Howard plays for Overtime Elite in Atlanta, where 2023 NC State signee Trey Parker plays.

He also holds offers from Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Providence, Auburn, Rutgers, Illinois, Texas A&M, Mississippi St, Wake Forest, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Arizona St, Kansas, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, and others.

As far as I can tell, Howard doesn’t hold an offer from NC State at this point.

Top-25 2024 SG Paul McNeil is Taking an Official Visit to NC State Next Weekend

Published

2024 4-Star Shooting Guard Paul McNeil (6’6″/185) will be taking an Official Visit to NC State next weekend.

ESPN ranks McNeil as the #17 overall player nationally in the 2024 recruiting class, and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina. I don’t understand how recruiting databases work, but at some point this year he will be a 5-star player according to ESPN as long as he stays in the Top-25.

McNeil plays for Richmond Senior in Rockingham, North Carolina.

This is huge for NC State to get a player of McNeil’s caliber to come in for an Official Visit this early in the process.
