Scout.com’s recruiting team took a look at the newcomers that they believe will have the biggest impact in the ACC. Coming in at #5 was NC State freshman PG Lavar Batts. Here is what they had to say:
Player: Lavar Batts, PG. NC State
Expected Impact: In a league loaded with newcomers who are in the Top 100, it is odd to see a kid like Lavar Batts listed, but none the less he should have a major impact for the Wolfpack. After an off-season of change, a freshman like Batts is going to be heavily leaned on by NC State from day one to make plays and run the team. Batts has tremendous speed with the ball and is the type of tough defender that head coach Kevin Keatts loves. Add in that only Markell Johnson is sure to get minutes in the backcourt as a primary ball handler with him, and the opportunity is tremendous for Batts to make a big impact. It might not be a trip to the NCAA Tourny for NC State this season, but Batts should give them an exciting freshman capable of building around over the course of four years.
Batts didn’t do a ton on the teams recent trip to Italy, but that can be expected from a freshman putting in his first minutes with his new team. With a full pre-season of practice under his belt, what do you think? Will Batts be an impact player for NC State?
