NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media today for his weekly press conference. If you feel like watching thr whole thing, you can do so here, but for those of you that would prefer the cliff notes, here it is in bulleted for.
- Last home game for a great group of Seniors (20).
- Rivalry week is huge, but so is Senior week. Last time in Carter-Finley for these guys.
- UNC’s quarterback Nathan Elliott has thrown 6 touchdowns and no interceptions in the past 2 games.
- They are banged up, but are getting some guys back. Getting back Wide Receiver Austin Proehl helped them. Wide Reciver Anthony Ratliff-Williams has been their playmaker at receiver.
- Defensively they have a lot of talent. They can run. The DBs like to play press man. Big safeties who make tackles in space.
- UNC has one 11 of their last 14 road games.
- Records don’t matter in these games. They are always going to be emotional.
- I told Emeka Emezie that I appreciated that his apology, but told him to make up for it. That’s all a coach can ask for. Thought he played a heck of a game. He will be better for that play. He and Chris Ingram are going to be very good players at NC State.
- In the last 2 years there have been 5 games that came down to a single play.
- Told the players that he’s not just proud of their athletic growth, but equally proud of their personal growth.
- Shawn Boone and Cole Cook could have had a room at this place (Murphy Center) they were here so much. The building won’t be the same without them.
- Jerod Fernandez has completely changed for the better.
- We’re allowed to send in the names of 5 underclassmen to the NFL to be evaluated. We’ll show them what the NFL says. Whether we think they should go back to school, or if they are going to be a 1st or 2nd round pick. How much money they can gain or lose. How many credits they have left to graduate. If we can insure them, we will tell them the amount. Probably 20-30 days to hear back.
- There will be turnover next year, and that’s why getting guys like Emeka Emezie and Chris Ingram is reps is important. Guys like Tyrone Riley and James Smith-Williams.
- Next year you will be talking about our O-Line if everyone comes back, with 4 out if 5 returning.
- Dylan Parham and Dylan Autenreith are two tight ends that have been playing that we like a lot.
- Will be a lot of new names on defense next year. Redshirted a JUCO defensive tackle Larrell Murchison, who we think will be a good player. We redshirted Grant Gibson who we think will be a good player.
- 7-0 when we win the Turnover Margin this year, and 0-4 when we don’t.
- Chris Ingram has showed us great progress in practice. I think his coverage is good. There were some things our safeties could have done to help, but they didn’t.
- Shawn Boone is our best tackler in the Secondary. Had given up explosive runs in three straight games and we thought enough was enough. The Safety is supposed to get that stuff down, and we thought we could do that with Shawn back there. He’s really smart. He knows angles. Knows what is going to happen before it does a lot. He can play all three positions.
