Despite the Disappointment, NC State CAN Finish ’17 With Heads Held High…If They Win 2 More

NC State had the chance to do have a season for the record books, but that chance is gone.

They could have become the ONLY team in school history to win 7 ACC games.

They could have become only the SECOND team in school history to win 10 or more games in a season.

That ship has sailed. The chance of having a truly special season is gone.

People will always look back at this season with the huge questions of “what if” and “what could have been.” Some will simply ask “how?” How did this team underachieve and miss their window?

How did NC State lose to South Carolina when they had over 500 yards of offense and held them to under 250? (2 turnovers).

How did NC State lose to Wake Forest when they had over 160 more yards of total offense, possessed the ball for over 41 minutes, and convert 14 of their 23 3rd downs? (3 turnovers)

What if NC State would have had a healthy Nyheim Hines for Notre Dame, Clemson, and the second half of the Wake Forest game?

I do think that this team underachieved. I am disappointed with where they are going to end up finishing, simply because I believe they are better than their record.

With that being said, this season can still be a success. It can still be something NC State fans should be proud of.

If NC State takes care of business against UNC and whoever they face in a bowl, they will become only the 11th team in school history to win 9 games in a season. This is the 125th year of NC State football, to help put that in perspective. If they win 9 games, they will do what 91.2% of the NC State teams through out history haven’t been able to do.

If the Wolfpack beats the Tar Heels on Saturday, they will pick up their 6th win in ACC play, becoming only the 6th NC State team to ever do so. The ACC was formed in 1953, to put that in perspective. The last time this was done by a Wolfpack team was 1994. If you’re at NC State currently, and you’re reading this, there’s a high chance you weren’t born yet.

Wolfpack fans, don’t give up on this team. Support and cheer them on to 2 more wins.
