The national championship wasn’t even decided 24 hours ago and already Yahoo’s Dr. Saturday has his early 2018 Top 25 rankings out. And as absurd as it might be, it’s worth noting because NC State makes an appearance.
We noted earlier that the Pack finished the season ranked 23rd in the AP poll, and that’s exactly where Dr. Saturday starts them off for 2018. Here is what he had to say.
23. NC State vaulted into these rankings when news broke that Ryan Finley will return to Raleigh for his final season. Finley, who threw for 3,518 yards while completing 65.1 percent of his passes, certainly would have been drafted, but he decided to return to a stacked Wolfpack offense for 2018. The team’s top three wideouts, Kelvin Harmon, Jakobi Meyers and Stephen Louis, will all be back. Running back Nyheim Hines is expected to return, too. The defense has to replace All-American end Bradley Chubb, but NC State has a bunch of talent returning coming off their best record (9-4) under Dave Doeren.
Sure, this doesn’t really mean much at this point, but what it does show you is that with Ryan Finley returning and Nyheim Hines thought to be returning as well, NC State is going to garner some national attention next season.
