NC State head coach Dave Doeren spoke with the media Wednesday about some happenings in Spring football. You can watch it in full here, but here it is in BULLETED form.

  • Reserve QB Matt McKay is getting there. Being in the room with Ryan Finley is really good for him. It’s all about reps. He is young, and has matured a lot in a year, both mentally and physically.  Graduated a semester early, and was an age behind. He’s young, I think he just turned 18.
  • Maurice Trowell switched from wide receiver to cornerback. Has really good feet and hips, and track the ball really well.  Made 2 really good plays in the red zone today. Good for his confidence. Has great makeup speed, which is something you can’t coach. Just a matter of time for him.
  • Yesterday I didn’t think we were grate coming off of Spring Break. Technique got worse as the practice went on. Can’t be a team that doesn’t play with great technique all the time. Play with a lot of spirit, but have to get better. These guys have played, and played in big games, but not in that starting role.
  • Tyrone Railey switched from DL to OL. He is 6’7” and has a 7’0” wingspan. Has the ability to keep people away and has the prototypical body. At DE he was always a little slower twitched than the other guys. On the OL he’s probably the most athletic guy in the room besides Garrett Bradbury and Tyler Jones. He’s still recovering from offseason surgery, but will be full go this summer.
  • Joseph Boletepeli got a ton of reps at DE today and De’Von Graves did at Cornerback as well. As early enrollees, they are going to be so much further ahead, because they will have a lot of film to watch of themselves in our system. Fun to see them compete and improve, and they have improved quickly.
  • Stephen Griffin has an edge to him (Transferred from Tennessee and sat out last year, playing on the Scout Team.). He’s exciting out there and has made us better at Nickel immediately.
  • Tight End Dylan Parham is getting a ton of reps, and made a really nice catch yesterday.
  • When Tight End Cary Angeline gets here he’s going to be a big part of what happens on offense. Big target that can run and catch. 6’7” & 250 pounds. He gives us another option and is a taller option than we’ve had.
  • Tight End Adam Boselli got too big and too soft around the edges. He’s lost a lot of weight and changed his body. Important for him. Missed nearly the entire training camp with tendinitis.
