Freshman WR Thayer Thomas named an ACC Player of the Week

A little over 4 months ago, NC State extended a scholarship to walk-on freshman WR Thayer Thomas.

Today, Thomas was named ACC’s Rookie Player of the Week for his 9 catch, 114-yard, 1 TD performance.

Before anyone tries to write this off of as an anomaly, remember that Thayer is the kid who got the Pack going after a sluggish start to week one after his big punt return led to his 14 yard TD reception.

Also, look at the quality of these catches…

Everyone knew NC State was going to have an elite level group of WRs, but not one person thought Thayer Thomas would be pacing the field. It will be interesting to see how his role grows and how he responds to faster, more experienced competition, but at this point, all eyes are on the redshirt freshman.

Note: That is 2-2 for NC State WRs. Last week Jakobi Meyers took home ACC POTW honors, and now Thomas.

Also of note: His younger brother, Linebacker Drake Thomas from Heritage High School, is a 2019 NC State commit who is one of the biggest hitters in the class.
