NC State offered a scholarship to 5-star 2021 Point Guard Cam Hayes (6’1″/160) out of Greensboro Day School (Greensboro, North Carolina) 4 days ago, and we caught up with him to get his thoughts on the offer. Hayes is the #20 overall player in the 2021 class according to 247Sports, the #2 point guard, and the #1 overall player in the state of North Carolina.
What does receiving an offer from NC State mean to you?
“It meant a whole lot to receive an offer from NC State. I really like their playing style and think that Coach Keatts is a great coach.”
When did NC State start recruiting you?
“They started showing a lot of interest in me the earlier part of this year. The coaches watched a few of my games during the spring and summer while I played with Team CP3. They’ve also been in to Greensboro Day a couple times this month to watch me workout with my high school team.”
How familiar are you with NC State?
“I visited them for a basketball game my freshman year and sophomore year while I attended Smith High School. I watched them a lot on tv while Dennis Smith was there and continued to watch them when Coach Keatts came. Their former player Sam Hunt is like a big brother to me, and I also know some current players Blake Harris, Ian Steere and Manny Bates.
How did you receive the offer?
He said he really likes my game and enjoyed watching me play. He thinks that I will be a great fit for his program. Also he likes players who are good academically and he knows from my coaches that I am a good student.
What were your thoughts on the NC State vs. Virginia football game?
“I really liked the atmosphere. The crowd was amazing and energetic.”
