PITTSBURGH, PA. – R-So. Hayden Hidlay split a pair of matches in the medal rounds in Session 5 at the 2019 NCAA Championships, and finished in fourth place at 157 pounds in Pittsburgh.

Hidlay entered as the #5 seed and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the second straight season.

Earning All-American honors for the second straight season, Hidlay is only the third wrestler in NC State school history to earn a podium finish at the NCAAs as both a freshman and sophomore.

3rd Place Bout Recap

In a rematch of their quarterfinals matchup, Hidlay fell to #4 seed Pantaleo of Michigan in the third place bout.

In the first period, Pantaleo scored the bout’s first takedown. After Hidlay notched that escape and then another to start the third period the score was even 2-2.

Pantaleo started the third down and got an early escape, then tacked on his second takedown of the bout with 30 seconds left. A Hidlay escape pulled it to 5-3 late, but he could not secure a tying takedown.

Consolation Semifinals Recap

Hidlay started his day with an 8-2 decision over #3 seed Deakin of Northwestern. Hidlay’s first period saw a pair of takedowns and a two-point near fall for the 6-1 lead. Hidlay tacked on a late takedown in the second, and only gave up two escapes points in the bout.
