  • Defensive Line reverse of last year…guys back…returning starters.
  • Offensive line is young…D-Line is older.
  • Going live is the best evaluation.
  • No one solidified on the O-Line because people have been in-and-out with minor things. Know in Fall where things are.

Previewing NC State’s Opponent: LOUISVILLE

Published

NC State will try to pick up their 5th win of the season tonight against Louisville at 7:30pm on the ACC Network.

New Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield is looking to lead the Cardinals to a 6th victory, making them bowl eligible after missing one last season.

The Wolfpack defense has allowed 500+ yards of total offense in 2 of their last 3 games, and they will have their hands full with one of the most potent offenses in the ACC. Louisville boasts the 4th best offense in the ACC, averaging 450.3 yards of total offense, with their run game being the star, averaging 213 yards per game on the ground, which ranks 3rd in the league.

Freshman Running Back Javian Hawkins has been a stud in his first season, needing only 22 yards rushing today to cross the 1,000-yard barrier. He would be the first Louisville running back to rush for 1,000+ yards since Bilial Powell in 2010.

If you look at the rankings for the ACC’s most efficient quarterbacks, you won’t find Sophomore Malik Cunningham’s anywhere, but that’s only because he doesn’t have enough pass attempts. If he had enough pass attempts, he would be the most efficient quarterback in the ACC, with a passing efficiency rating of 187.3 on the year. Cunningham has thrown 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, completing 62.5% of his passes.

Cunningham is only averaging 153 yards through the air per game, but there isn’t a question of whether he has a favorite target. Sophomore Tutu Atwell ranks 8th in the ACC in receptions per game (5.1) and 3rd in receiving yards per game (89.6).

Louisville’s defense ranks in the bottom of the conference in nearly every category, but that hasn’t been a guarantee for a successful NC State offensive performance the past couple of weeks.

Scoring Defense – 14th
Total Defense – 11th
Pass Defense – 10th
Rush Defense – 11th

NC State vs. Louisville: Series Breakdown

Published

on

NC State will host Louisville tonight under the lights in Carter-Finley Stadium, but before they do, here’s a look at the series between the Wolfpack and the Cardinals.

While Louisville holds a 6-3 advantage in the series, which dates back to 1951, NC State has won two-in-a-row.

The 3 times Louisville has played NC State after a loss, they have won each time. Also, the three times they have been favored, they won each of those as well. With that being said, the Wolfpack is 4-1 against the Cardinals at home.

NC State Football Wearing Black & Red vs. Louisville

Published

on

NC State’s Football team will be wearing BLACK jersey’s, with RED helmets and pants.

Ironically, the last time NC State wore this combination was against Louisville in 2015 at home. Sometimes you pull out a rarely worn piece of clothing for good luck, but unfortunately, the Wolfpack lost 20-13 that day in Carter-Finley. NC State was a 2.5-point favorite in that game.

Head Coach Dave Doeren spoke with the media today after practice prior to NC State’s matchup against Louisville on Saturday night. You can watch the video above, or check out a bulleted breakdown below.

Helping team not overreact…

  • I think that’s my job is to insulate, because everyone else overreacts.
  • We’re not happy. Let’s not say that. But they understand when we started the season, we made a pact in that room that we’re gonna go one week at a time.
  • We’ll have to reassess our goals as we go obviously, but there’s a lot for this team to play for — most importantly their pride.
  • They want to fight hard to get that locker room the way they want it after a win.

Devin Leary…

  • He’s super competitive.
  • Doesn’t get rattled
  • Stays coachable
  • Hard on himself, but he doesn’t lose himself in tough moments.
  • These are very difficult, but also very rewarding experiences for him right now.
  • What he’s going through as a Redshirt Freshman will make him that much better.
  • I like how he comes to work.
  • He’s in the office at night on his own every night for 2 hours watching film.
  • He’s very dedicated to being a good football player.
