Just when it looked like the dust was beginning to settle in the ACC, with the Wolfpack starting to emerge as an upper-teir team, they go and play their two worst games of the season.
A loss at Georgia Tech, followed by an embarrassing home loss to a floundering UNC team leaves the Wolfpack at 5-5, smack dab in the middle of the league. This also starts to make you wonder if this is a tournament team or not. ESPN’s latest bracketology has them falling to an 11 seed, with a play-in game vs. Minnesota.
The really concerning thing is that over the next 5 games, State will play three where they likely won’t be favored.
– Next up is #6 Louisville (2/1)
– @ Syracuse (winners of 5 of last 6) on 2/11
– Vs. #9 Duke (2/19)
In fact, this 5 game stretch coming up will decide NC State’s fate. If they come out taking care of Miami and BC, plus taking one or two of these three tough games, then you can bet they’ll be heading to the tournament. If not, well, let’s just cross that bridge if we come to it.
