Senior Wide Receiver Emeka Emezie moved into the Top-10 in NC State history in career receptions, passing Owen Spencer and George Bryan to move into 10th place.

I honestly feel bad for Emezie. Expectations were very high for Emezie in 2019, with Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers leaving early for the NFL. The opportunity for stardom was on a platter for him to take. A 1,000 yard season was likely, and ample more targets and receptions from the year before.

Unfortunately, the QB Room of Matt McKay, Bailey Hockman and Devin Leary weren’t the same as catching balls from Ryan Finley. In 2019, Emezie only had 3 more receptions than the year before, and actually had less receiving yards (40 less yards) and touchdown receptions (3 less). I’m not saying that Emezie isn’t to blame for his lack of production last year, but it wasn’t all on him.

Through 2 games, Emezie has 5 receptions in 2020, with Redshirt Sophomore Devin Leary playing only 1.5 quarters. If Leary fully gets the reigns of the QB position, there’s a chance Emezie moves much higher up this list.
