State beat Virginia Tech, 68-55, despite a below average shooting night. Outside of about 40 seconds of gameplay, the Wolfpack lead for the entirety of the game.
We thought coming in that the biggest matchup would be inside, as State’s Cunane faced her hometown rival Kitley. The two put. on. a. show. Aggressive, hard fought battle saw the two go punch for punch all night, ending with similar game totals.
Kitley: 20 pts / 9 rebs / 2 blocks
Cunane: 27 pts / 9 rebs / 2 steals
The Pack struggled from both the line (63%) and were completely off from three (18%). Luckily, VT’s Sheppard didn’t look right all night, after exiting yesterday’s game early with an ankle injury. Boyd stepped up, yet again, with another double-double (13 pts / 10 rebs / 3 blocks). Brown-Turner easily had her worst game of the season, only putting up 2 points and struggling to get good looks. To win by 13 and not get the best performance by a couple of Pack players, goes to show how deep this team is.
In short, State looks ultra focused on just winning games. Whether close or pulling away, they seem ready for the challenge.
With the win, State moves on to the semifinals. That game will be at 2:30pm Saturday against 3-seed Georgia Tech or 11-seed Clemson.
