NC State Hires Syracuse Offensive Coordinator Robert Anae as their New Offensive Coordinator

Published

on

NC State is hiring Syracuse Offensive Coordinator Robert Anae as their new Offensive Coordinator.

This happened fast, considering the fact he was at an in-home visit with a Syracuse recruit 3 hours ago.

Anae joins the Wolfpack coaching staff after spending only one year up in Syracuse. Prior to that, Anae served as the Offensive Coordinator at Virginia from 2016-21.

In 2021, Virginia’s offense ranked 3rd in the FBS in Total Offense.

A three-time nominee for the Frank Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach, Anae’s offense has finished in the top-25 of 10 different NCAA offensive statistical categories a total of 56 times in his 15-year tenure as an OC, including 21 top-10 rankings.

The 2021 Virginia squad – was one-of-five programs in the FBS this season to average over 500 yards of total offense, averaging 515.8. Their total offense number and passing yardage average (396.2) are both program records. They ranked second nationally in passing yardage last year.

In 2021, Brennan Armstrong broke single season quarterback records for touchdown passes (31), passing yards (4,449) and total offense (4,700) at the end of the regular season. He’s the latest in a line of quarterbacks to play in the NFL after working in Anae’s offenses. Bryce Perkins (Rams), Kurt Benkert (Packers) and Taysom Hill (Saints) are all currently on NFL rosters, while Max Hall and John Beck both had tenures in the league as well.

Between 2013 and 2021, quarterbacks under Anae have averaged 3,368 passing yards and 513 rushing yards a season for an average of 3,880 yards of total offense. The receiving units have also been balanced under Anae at Virginia, as his offenses created the first UVA receiving trios to each amass at least 600 receiving yards in the same season. That has happened three times in five years. (Link)

Prior to his stint at UVA, Anae was the Offensive Coordinator at BYU from 2013-15.

That tenure culminated with BYU finishing No. 14 in the final rankings and having the No. 10 ranked rushing attack in the country. Hill and running back Jamaal Williams both ran for over 1,000 yards as the offense netted 3,475 yards on the ground – a school record. He was also at BYU from 2005-10 in the same role.

Anae’s offense produced the top-three rushers all-time at BYU – Williams: 3,901; Harvey Unga: 3,455; and Curtis Brown: 3,221 – and the program’s top wide receiver in terms of receiving yards, catches and touchdowns – Austin Collie: 3,225 yards, 215 catches and 30 touchdowns. Additionally, Dennis Pitta broke BYU’s receptions and yardage records by a tight end under Anae: 2,901 yards and 221. Pitta was a consensus All-American in 2009 and fellow Cougars’ tight end Johnny Harline was a first team All-American in 2006. (Link)

And now for the speculation about the structure of the staff. I personally would love to see an upgrade in our O-line. I dont think it is coaching as much as talent and depth, which comes back to recruiting. As far as QB coach, Anae got credit for the QB development and production at UVA and Cuse. So why not?.

Love it! And that indeed happened fast. And agree 100% about being an excellent program manager. DD seems to be good really good at working in the background while maintaining focus on the task at hand. I’ve always believed a good coach is not only good at their job but particularly good at building the team around them.

NC State Offers FCS DT Elinus Noel III

Published

After Elinus Noel III (6’2″/230) entered the Transfer Portal yesterday, it didn’t take long for NC State to extend an offer.

He also has picked up offers from Baylor and Temple.

Noel III played last year at Texas Southern, which is in the FCS. As a Junior, he had 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 10 games.

Prior to Texas Southern, Noel III spent his first two seasons at Nicholls State, where he recorded a total of 53 tackles.

247Sports ranked him as a 3-Star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class out of New Orleans (LA).

Noel III has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

With Nick Campbell entering the Transfer Portal, NC State is in the hunt for some depth at Nose Tackle. Even if the staff were to feel confident with what they have in JR Brandon Cleveland and RS-SODJ Jackson, the Wolfpack is in need of depth at the position.

WATCH: In NC State’s Spring Game, Tight End Justin Joly Showed He is Going to Be Trouble for Opposing Defenses in ’24

Published

on

It was evident NC State Tight End Justin Joly (6’3″/235) is going to be a problem for opposing defenses after his performance in the 2024 Spring Game a few weeks back. He is an extremely athletic Tight End, but he’s also bigger and more physical than I expected.

According to my calculations, Joly had 3 receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. He started things off with a 3-yard touchdown in the corner of the end zone. He followed that up with a 16 yard catch across the middle through contact. Finally, Joly was the recipient of a double-reverse flea flicker, from RB Demarcus Jones II to WR Kevin Concepcion to QB Grayson McCall to him, for a 37-yard gain.

Joly transferred to NC State this offseason from UCONN, and he was the #2 Tight End in the Transfer Portal according to ON3. He had an incredible Sophomore campaign this past year, catching 56 passes for 578 yards and 2 touchdowns. Joly had 4 receptions for 38 yards in the season opener against the Wolfpack.
