Could we see Some NC State Individual Offensive Bowl Records Broken Today?

Let’s take a look at NC State’s Individual Bowl Records, and speculate which if any of them could be broken in the Pop-Tarts Bowl today.

RUSHING YARDS
176 Rahshon Spikes vs. Miami, 1998 Micron PC
159 Ted Brown vs. West Virginia, 1975 Peach
126 Ted Brown vs. Pittsburgh, 1978 Tangerine

Considering how NC State has used their Running Backs in their ground game, I don’t foresee one of them being in the conversation to crack the Top-3 above. On the other hand, could Quarterback Brennan Armstrong run for 126 yards? I doubt that will happen, but he has rushed for 96 yards twice this season. If anyone on this team would run for 126 yards today, it would be Armstrong.

RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS
3 Stan Fritts vs. West Virginia, 1972 Peach
2 Jaylen Samuels vs. Miss. St., 2015 Belk
2 Matt Dayes vs. UCF, 2014 Bitcoin St. Petersburg
2 Ray Robinson vs. Minnesota, 2000 Micron PC
2 Tyrone Jackson vs. Iowa, 1988 Peach
2 Stan Fritts vs. Kansas, 1973 Liberty

Could I see a scenario where Running Back Delbert Mimms III or Quarterback Brennan Armstrong rushed for 2 touchdowns? Yes.

PASSING YARDS
475 Philip Rivers vs. Kansas, 2003 Tangerine
383 Mike Glennon vs. Vanderbilt, 2012 Music City
318 Ryan Finley vs. Arizona St., 2017 Hyundai Sun
310 Philip Rivers vs. Minnesota, 2000 Micron PC

Could we see Armstrong sling the ball all over the field like he did against UNC in NC State’s last game, passing for 334 yards? That would be awesome, and if he did match those numbers, he would produce one of the best passing performances in school history.

TOUCHDOWN PASSES
5 Philip Rivers vs. Kansas, 2003 Tangerine
3 Ryan Finley vs. Vanderbilt, 2016 Independence
3 Mike Glennon vs. Louisville, 2011 Belk
2 Russ. Wilson vs. W. Virginia, 2010 Champs Sports
2 Philip Rivers vs. Notre Dame, 2002 Gator
2 Philip Rivers vs. Minnesota, 2000 Micron PC
2 Terry Jordan vs. East Carolina, 1992 Peach
2 Erik Kramer vs. Virginia Tech, 1986 Peach
2 Johnny Evans vs, Iowa State, 1977 Peach
2 Dave Buckey vs. West Virginia, 1972 Peach

Could I see Armstrong throwing 2 touchdowns? Definitely…I expect that to happen. Three is definitely doable as well.

RECEPTIONS
13 Jerricho Cotchery vs. Kansas, 2003 Tangerine
10 Jerricho Cotchery vs. Notre Dame, 2002 Gator
8 Tobais Palmer vs. Vanderbilt, 2012 Music City
8 Willie Wright vs. Pittsburgh, 2001 Tangerine
8 Dovonte Edwards vs. Pittsburgh, 2001 Tangerine

Freshman Wide Receiver Kevin Concepcion caught 8 passes against Marshall, and that’s the only time he did so all season. I have no doubt they will try to get the ball in Concepcion’s hands as much as possible.

RECEIVING YARDS
171 Jerricho Cotchery vs. Kansas, 2003 Tangerine
157 Koren Robinson vs. Minn., 2000 Micron PC
127 Jerricho Cotchery vs. Notre Dame, 2002 Gator

Concepcion has three 100-yard games in 2023 thus far, but only one of those was for more than 127 yards, going for 131 against UNC in the last game.

RECEIVING TOUCHDOWNS
3 Jaylen Samuels vs. Vandy, 2016 Independence

No NC State receiver has caught 3 touchdowns in a single game this season, but Concepcion has caught 2 touchdowns in 5 separate games.

FIELD GOALS
4 Christopher Dunn vs. Maryland, 2022 Duke’s Mayo

I feel like a pattern is forming here. If Brayden Narveson matched his production against UNC, he would tie Dunn’s record. Narveson made all 4 of his Field Goal attempts against the Tar Heel.
