NC State is headed to their 4th College World Series in school history after defeating Georgia 8-5 in Game 3 of the Athens Super Regional this evening. This marks the 3rd time that Elliott Avent has led the Wolfpack to the College World Series.

Senior Logan Whitaker struck out 7 in 4.1 innings pitched, giving up 2 earned runs. Freshman Jacob Dudan gave up 2 earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched, striking out 2. Sophomore Derrick Smith pitched a season high 2.1 innings, and a season high 46 pitches, giving up 1 run on 1 hit. Dudan picked up the Win (4-2), and Smith picked up the Save (8).

In the Top of the 3rd, Senior 1st Baseman Garrett Pennington tied the game with a 2-run Home Run.

In the Top of the 4th, Senior 3rd Baseman Alec Makarewicz gave the Wolfpack a 2-run lead with an RBI Single.

In the Top of the 6th, Sophomore Center Fielder Eli Serrano III made it a 3-run Wolfpack lead with a Solo Home Run.

In the Top of the 7th, Freshman Alex Sosa hit a Solo Home Run, making it a 3-run lead again.

In the Top of the 8th, Senior 3rd Baseman Alec Makarewicz hit a 2-Run Home Run, giving NC State a 4-run lead.

#10 seed NC State will face #2 seed Kentucky in the College World Series, but I wouldn’t want to face the Wolfpack, who have won 18 of the last 23 games.
