When NC State plays Kentucky today in the 2024 College World Series, it will mark their 2nd appearance in 4 years.

There are still 6 players on the Wolfpack’s roster that were on that 2021 team that tragically were eliminated from the Semifinals due to Covid-19 protocols.

Outfielder Noah Soles
Starting Pitcher Logan Whitaker
Starting Pitcher Sam Highfill
Starting Pitcher Matt Willadsen
Relief Pitcher John Mirala
Infielder/Outfielder Carson Falsken

Out of these 5, the only two players who saw action in the 2021 College World Series were Highfill & Falsken.

In Game 2, Sam Highfill went toe-to-toe with Jack Leiter, and won, pitching 7.1 scoreless innings, with 7 strikeouts in NC State’s 1-0 win over #4 seed Vanderbilt. In Game 3, with the roster gutted due to COVID-19 protocols, Highfill had to step in at 1st Base. He showed that he still knew how to swing a bat, going 3-4 from the plate. Despite the heroic efforts of the Pack13 squad, the Commodores won 3-1.

Falsken also saw action in Game 3, playing 2nd Base for the Pack, going 1-3 from the plate.
