It’s awesome. A lot of playmakers around me. A lot of options. Fast guys to get the ball to. KC (Kevin Concepcion) had a lot of weight on his shoulders. Had to do a lot of different things. I think it’s important this year that we have a lot of different guys that can do a lot of different things. Defenses aren’t just going to be able to queue in on where #10 is. There’s a lot of other guys they have to worry about. It’s exciting. It makes my life a lot easier. I love working with those guys.
KC is KC. He’s going to make big plays and do good things out there. The more we get him the ball the better. I think it’s just going to make our lives easier with all the other weapons around him. No one is just going to be able to queue in on where he is. We’ll be able to spread the ball around, but when KC gets the ball, good things happen. We will continue to try to get him the ball as much as we can.
I think Jordan (Waters) has done a great job. He’s come in and led that room. There’s a lot of guys in there that can get things done. Kendrick’s (Raphael) coming off of a year last year where he got to get his feet wet and plays some snaps. Young guy, Duke Scott, that’s done a really good job in the Spring that’s going to get some snaps too. Obviously, Jordan is the vet in that room, and he’s leading those guys. He’s done a great job. The whole room has done a really good job so far.
I think the most important thing for me was to get to know the guys when I first got here, to build those relationships. I think the stronger those bonds are, the harder you play for your teammates on the field. The approach has always been the same for me. I want to go out there and be great. I need to put in the work and take care of my body.
Dacari (Collins) is a vet guy. He’s played a lot of football. He’s worked really hard this offseason. I worked with him a lot this offseason when I got here, throughout the Summer. The changes he’s made, taking care of his body off the field, and coming in every day going to work. It’s been fun throwing the ball to Dacari, and we expect big things from him this year.
I think it’s exciting (being ranked in the Preseason Poll). It’s exciting to know people are acknowledging the talent we have here. The momentum we have going into the season. I think the most important thing for us right now is to focus on being better than the day before. I think we’ve done a good job of that. Coming out every day during camp, just putting the cleats to the grass and going to work. It’s exciting to see that obviously, to get some recognition, for the school and the community, but our goal is to come here and get better each and every day, and get ready to play Western Carolina Week 1.
I think the Wide Receivers push each other every day. They really do. They come to work. I think I’ve done a good job bringing those guys together, and getting them on the same page. They do a fantastic job. I have so many playmakers around me, it makes my job so much easier. I just have to find the open guy, and get it in the fast guys hands, and let him run. Really exciting about working with that whole group.
I think it started in the Spring. Going out on the field on our own, and just throwing routes on air. Getting into those conversations about different coverages and different leverages. How I expect them to run different routes. Overall getting on the same page and timing with those guys. The more reps we can get together the better.
Keenan (Jackson) was an early enroll guy. You saw him in the Spring and see immediately that he’s a lot further ahead than you’d expect from an early enrollee Freshman. This camp he’s really turned it on. The strides he’s made from the Spring are really impressive. Today you saw him going against Aydan White, and making some contested catches. He’s a good player, and he cares. He wants to be on the field, and you can see that. Really excited about being with him. He’s a another Union County guy. From the same area as me. Love Keenan.
It’s coming (the mullet). I’m one cut in. I’ll clean it up after camp, see where I am, and just ride it out.
I think it’s so important to see those looks from our defense every day. With Davin (Vann), Travali (Price) and Brandon Cleveland up front that we have to block. And then the guys in the back end make it really challenging for us. It’s iron sharpening iron every day. It’s highly competitive out there.
It’s getting to that point (tired of hitting each other). It’s getting a little chippy out there. Once you get to two weeks into camp, you’re ready to hit another color jersey. We’ve just got to do a good job of keeping it highly competitive, but taking care of our guys at the same time.
