Former NC State Quarterback Jacoby Brissett has won the starting job in New England. What makes it even more beautiful, is the fact that he beat out former UNC Quarterback Drake Maye for the job, who was drafted with the 3rd overall pick this Spring.

Brissett told NFL Network this preseason “I’m the perfect person to mentor the guys, but I’m also the perfect person to start.”

To be honest, Brissett probably earned the job due to his experience, rather than his performance in the Preseason. Maye’s numbers in the preseason were better.

While Brissett has started 48 of the 79 games he has played in, this is rare territory. Most of those games were due to someone being injured. At 31 years old, Brissett is the starter at the beginning of the season because he won a position battle against a 1st round pick.

Brissett is grateful for the opportunity, and he isn’t going to take it for granted.
