NC State vs. WCU: A Historical Perspective

NC State and Western Carolina will play one another for the 8th time tonight.

The Wolfpack are currently 7-0 against the Catamounts, with all 7 games being played at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Five out of the seven times NC State has played WCU, it has been in the season opener.

Through 7 games, the Wolfpack is averaging 47 points per game against WCU, and only give up an average of 9.1 points agains the Catamounts.

Two of the Wolfpack’s victories over WCU have been shutouts, including the last time the two played in 2019 (41-0).

In 1990, the Wolfpack rushed for 400 yards against the Catamounts, which is the 4th highest rushing total in a single game in school history. In the same game, NC State tallied 9 touchdowns, which is tied for the 2nd most in a single game in school history.

NC State has never lost a season opener at home under Dave Doeren. The only time the Pack has lost their home opener under Doeren was last season against Notre Dame.

Since the start of the 2014 season, Doeren’s 2nd year, NC State has won 25 of their last 26 home games against non-conference opponents.
