NC State Head Football Coach Dave Doeren announced today that Senior Safety Devan Boykin will miss the entire month of September, and will return to the field sometime in October.

“Devan’s out for the month. His timeline is to be back sometime in October. Can’t really give you a date on that. Every month you kind of reassess where guys are at as they get to this stage of the ACL recovery.”

Boykin tore his ACL in December in preparation for the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Kansas St.

Last season, Boykin had the 5th highest PFF grade on NC State’s defense (71.3). He had the best Run Defense grade (90.5), and the 3rd best Tackling grade (86.1). Boykin ranked 4th on the team in tackles (54), and tied for the lead in interceptions (3).

If Boykin was healthy, he would likely be starting at Free Safety over Bishop Fitzgerald.
