NC State Senior Captain Defensive End Davin Vann has spearheaded a campaign, along with his family and the NC State football program, to bring aid to those in dire need in the western part of North Carolina, who experienced the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.
Vann’s family owns a moving company (Joyful Movers), which is assisting in this process, and they are working hand-in-hand with the Durham Rescue Mission to get the supplies to those that need it most.
Vann met with the media today to talk about the initiative.
My mom and I decided that we just wanted to find a way to help the people of the western part of North Carolina and we kind of got a little donation drive going, where people could just bring supplies, whatever, like water, batteries, those kinds of things, and just drop them off. She got in contact with Durham Rescue Mission and they have the means of getting it up there.
My mom and I, we were just talking about it Sunday night, and we talk a lot about doing charity and stuff like that, and we kind of put it off a lot of times, but we decided that this is one thing that we really wanted to take action on, because people were struggling so bad, and she texted Coach Doeren the next day and he was on board immediately. Right after she texted him, he texted me and we got things rolling. So it was real quick.
We actually did fill up one truck. We got two out there right now. We’re trying to fill up the second one, but I mean, it was just crazy. It’s a beautiful thing watching that many people putting stuff out and being supportive of Asheville, Boone, all those places. It’s just like I said, it’s a good thing. It’s good seeing people do that.
I talked to Isaiah Shirley a lot about it. I mean him being from Boone and Aydan White being from Asheville, and just having a lot of people on our team from that area.
It’s very prevalent in the Murph. Knowing what they’re going through, I wanted to find a way to help.
It’s not too late to donate. You can drop off supplies at the Close-King Indoor Practice Facility until 8pm tonight, and tomorrow between Noon-8pm.
Here’s some footage of the work being done from this afternoon.
