#20 NC State 89 Coastal Carolina 68: Box Score (with notes)

The 20th ranked NC State Women’s Basketball team improved to 3-2 this evening, defeating Coastal Carolina 89-68 at home.

The Wolfpack shot better than the Chanticleers, and also won the battle of the boards, the turnover margin, and shot more free throws.

NC State shot 50% from the field, and held Coastal to 38.7%.

The Wolfpack hit 11 three-pointers (37.9%), which was a season high.

Even though NC State had 5 more free throw attempts, they only made 6 of 16 from the charity stripe.

The Wolfpack committed 10 turnovers, and forced 14. They had 15 points off of turnovers, and Coastal had 12.

NC State outrebounded Coastal 50-31, but their success on the offensive glass was most impressive. The Wolfpack snagged 19 offensive boards, which led to 18 second chance points. the Chanticleers had only 7 offensive boards, which translated to 8 second chance points.

Senior Guard Aziaha James led the Wolfpack in scoring for the 3rd time this season, chipping in 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting from the field, and 2 of 5 from beyond the arc. James’ 5 assists also tied for the team high. She also snagged 8 boards.

Freshman Guard Devyn Quigley had the best game of her young career, scoring 20 points off of the bench. She was 8 of 13 from the field, and hit 4 of her 7 three-point attempts. Quigley also had 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Senior Guard Madison Hayes had a season high 18 points. She was 7 of 10 from the field, and 3 of 6 from three.

Freshman Center Lorena Awou had a team high 9 rebounds. Sophomore Mallory Collier started at Center, but only played 7 minutes compared to Awou’s 19 minutes.

Next up, the Wolfpack will hop on a plane and head down to the Bahamas to play in the Pink Flamingo Classic. The first game will be against Southern on Monday at 11am. If they win, they will play the winner of LSU vs. Washington. The Tigers are currently ranked 7th nationally.
