NC State Offers Western Carolina OT Transfer Derek Simmons

The 2024 Transfer Portal season has arrived, and NC State has offered their first player. This afternoon, the Wolfpack offered Western Carolina Graduate Transfer Offensive Tackle Derek Simmons (6’6″/325).

Since entering the Portal, Simmons has also picked up offers from UCF, Texas Tech, Michigan St., Cal, ECU, Duke, USF, Western Kentucky, Toledo, Houston, Pitt and Liberty.

Simmons spent the past two seasons at Western Carolina as a starter. He has been a journeyman, bouncing around the college ranks. Prior to joining the Catamounts, Simmons was at Abilene Christian in 2021, and he started his career at Tusculum in 2020. He played High School ball at Fletcher in Jacksonville, Florida.

This season, Simmons was the highest graded player on the Western Carolina Offense, and the 2nd highest graded player on the team. His PFF grade was 78.8, with an elite Pass Blocking Grade of 82.3. Simmons was solid in 2023 as well, with a PFF grade of 77.9.

Simmons earned 2nd Team All-Southern Conference honors this season.
