NC State (5-3) and Florida State (7-2) will kick off ACC play this afternoon at 4pm in the Lenovo Center.

Here’s how the two teams matchup statistically.

NC State is the superior offensive team, and FSU is the superior defensive team. The Wolfpack rank 106th in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency, and the Seminoles are one of the best defensive teams, ranking 31st in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency.

Flipping things around, NC State ranks 68th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency, and FSU ranks 93rd in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency.

I’m not a statistical guru, but neither team is good offensively, with NC State holding a slight advantage. On the other hand, FSU is 37 spots ahead of the Wolfpack defensively.

It works in the Wolfpack’s favor that their two best statistical attributes defensively, are two weaknesses for the Seminoles defensively. NC State ranks 55th in Effective Field Goal Percentage Defense, and FSU ranks 156th in Effective Field Goal Percentage Defense. The Wolfpack ranks 36th in Defensive Turnover Percentage, and the Seminoles rank 195th in Offensive Turnover Percentage.

NC State is decent at taking care of the rock, ranking 52nd in Offensive Turnover Percentage, but this will be a strength vs. strength battle. FSU ranks 6th in Defensive Turnover Percentage.

The Wolfpack is one of the worst teams at allowing Offensive Rebounds, ranking 306th. Thankfully the Seminoles aren’t elite at grabbing rebounds off the offensive glass, ranking 125th.

FSU’s best offensive feature is their ability to get to the Free Throw line, ranking 32nd in Free Throw Rate. NC State ranks 103rd in Defensive Free Throw Rate.

NC State hasn’t been great at grabbing Offensive Boards or getting to the free throw line, ranking 209th in Offensive Rebounding Percentage, and 112th in Free Throw Rate. Fortunate for the Wolfpack, these are the two weakest aspects of the Seminoles defense. FSU ranks 245th in allowing opponents to grab offensive boards, and 306th at Defensive Free Throw Rate.
