On December I reported that Redshirt Sophomore Ball State Offensive Guard Taran Tyo (6’4″/326) would be taking an Official Visit to NC State this week. A member of PM3Sports, the Sports Management Agency that represents Tyo, was the one that gave me the intel.

Things are always evolving in the insanity of the Transfer Portal. Tyo’s representative just confirmed with me that Tyo’s Official Visit to NC State has been cancelled.

Tyo started all 12 games at Right Guard in 2023 as a Redshirt Freshman. Entering this season, he earned Preseason All-MAC honors by Athlon and College Football Network. It turns out the Preseason honors were prophetic. Tyo earned 3rd Team All-MAC honors for his efforts this season.

Tyo possesses versatility. In 2023 he started every game at Right Guard, and he started 11 of 12 games at Right Tackle this season.

He was the 2nd highest graded member of the Ball State offense this year according to PFF, posting a grade of 78.3. For what it’s worth, that’s a better grade than any NC State Offensive Lineman this season. Tyo knows how to open holes in the run game, with a Run Blocking Grade of 81.0.

Tyo is currently the #12 Offensive Tackle in the Transfer Portal according to 247Sports.

NC State is looking to replace 3 of their 5 staring Offensive Linemen in 2025. Redshirt Sophomore Right Tackle Jacarrius Peak and Redshirt Junior Guard Anthony Carter Jr. are the only starters that have any years of eligibility left.

NC State already hosted Charlotte Offensive Lineman Jonny King for an Official Visit earlier this week.
