On December 18th, a Tennessee court granted Vanderbilt Quarterback Diego Pavia an injunction in his lawsuit against the NCAA. Pavia is suing the NCAA, arguing that his years in Junior College shouldn’t count against his 4 years of college eligibility. When the Tennessee court granted the injunction, it looked like there was a possibility that any current players on NCAA rosters who previously played in the JUCO ranks, any current JUCO players, and any future JUCO players would not have their years in Junior College count against their 4 years of NCAA eligibility.

On the 23rd, the NCAA voted to appeal the Tennessee court’s ruling.

With the NCAA’s appeal, any former JUCO player that will exhaust their years of eligibility this athletic year, will be granted an additional year of eligibility next year.

Because of the court ruling combined with the NCAA’s appeal, NC State Senior Guard Marcus Hill is granted an additional year of eligibility, giving him the ability to return as a member of the Wolfpack Men’s Basketball team in 2025-26.

Hill played his first two years at Southern Union State Community College, before transferring to Bowling Green for the 2023-24 season. In his Sophomore season at Southern Union, Hill led the NJCAA in points scored (780), and ranked 3rd in points per game (25.2). He earned 3rd team NJCAA All-American honors in 2022-23.

In his Junior year at Bowling Green, Hill averaged 20.5 points per game, which led the MAC. Hill earned 1st Team All-MAC honors in 2023-24.

Hill is currently NC State’s leading scorer, averaging 12.6 points per game, shooting 50.5% from the field.

Even though the NCAA just appealed the Tennessee court ruling, that doesn’t mean this case is over. If the NCAA loses their appeal, Hill could possibly have 2 more years of eligibility after this season.
