Temple Cornerback Jamel Johnson is Transferring to NC State!

Temple Cornerback Jamel Johnson (5’11″/195) is transferring to NC State.

Johnson took an Official Visit to Raleigh this weekend, after picking up an offer from the Wolfpack on January 3rd.

He has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

Johnson started off his career at Charleston Southern, where he played his first two seasons. As a Freshman, he played in 8 games, starting in 3. He had 18 tackles and 4 interceptions (team high). In 2023, Johnson had 47 tackles and 5 pass breakups, starting in every game.

After transferring to Temple last offseason, Johnson started every game for the Owls, and started every game. He had 47 tackles, and led the team with 2 interceptions and 9 pass breakups. His PFF grade of 77.3 was the 2nd highest grade on Temple’s defense. Opposing Quarterbacks only completed 37% of the passes thrown his way this year.

Since entering the Portal, Johnson has picked up offers from Houston, Jax State, New Mexico St., Southern Miss, UCONN, UTEP, Arkansas St., UMASS, UNLV and NC State.

After losing Defensive Backs Brandon Cisse, Tamarcus Cooley, Devan Boykin and Bishop Fitzgerald to the Transfer Portal in one night last week (January 2nd), the Wolfpack has picked up two Defensive Backs from the Portal in the past two days.

Johnson is NC State’s 7th commitment in their 2025 Transfer Class, joining Offensive Linemen Teague Anderson (Utah State)Brock Stukes (North Carolina A&T) and Jalen Grant (Purdue)Linebacker AJ Richardson (Norfolk State),  Tight End Cody Hardy (Elon), and Cornerback Jaren Sensabaugh (Temple).
