NC State Assistant Coach Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay has left his alma mater for another coaching position, though it isn’t public knowledge which new school he will be at.

In 2020, Aughtry-Lindsay came back to the school he played football at, becoming the Nickels Coach, and spent the past 5 years coaching that position group.

When Tony Gibson took the Head Coaching job at Marshall in December, Aughtry-Lindsay was the Wolfpack’s Interim Defensive Coordinator for the Military Bowl against ECU.

When DJ Eliot was named the new Defensive Coordinator for the Wolfpack, on the same day, Aughtry-Lindsay added to more titles to his name. He was named the new Safeties Coach, replacing Joe DeForest who retired, and also was given the title Co-Defensive Coordinator.

Aughtry-Lindsay played Linebacker at NC State from 2001-04, where he was a 2-year starter. In his career with the Wolfpack, he had 266 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

After playing two years of Arena Football after graduating from NC State, Aughtry-Lindsay got his first coaching position in the high school ranks, serving as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Andrews High School (Andrews, NC).

He came back home to his alma mater in 2008, working as a Recruiting Assistant in 2008, and then he took on the role as a Defensive Graduate Assistant the following two seasons.

In 2011, he spread his wings, taking on his first college coaching position at Slippery Rock, coaching the Linebackers. In 2012-13, he served in the same position at Elon.

In 2014, Aughtry-Lindsay got his first opportunity as a Defensive Coordinator at St. Augustine’s, where he also coached the Special Teams.

From 2015-17, he was the Defensive Run Game Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Campbell. While working with the Camels, Campbell ranked 5th nationally in Total Defense in the FCS ranks.

In 2018, Aughtry-Lindsay jumped back to the Power 4 ranks, working as a Senior Player Personnel Assistant at Ole Miss.

In 2019, he jumped back down to the FCS ranks to take on a Defensive Coordinator position at North Carolina Central. The Eagles ranked 17th in the FCS in Total Defense.

Wherever Freddie has landed, we wish him the best!
