Former NC State Assistant Coach Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay is set to be named the Defensive Coordinator at Sam Houston, according to reports.

Aughtry-Lindsay spent the past 5 years coaching the Nickels at his alma mater NC State. When Tony Gibson took the Head Coaching job at Marshall in December, Aughtry-Lindsay was the Wolfpack’s Interim Defensive Coordinator for the Military Bowl against ECU.

This opportunity at Sam Houston isn’t his first rodeo as a Defensive Coordinator.

After playing two years of Arena Football after graduating from NC State, Aughtry-Lindsay got his first coaching position in the high school ranks, serving as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Andrews High School (Andrews, NC) in 2007.

In 2014, Aughtry-Lindsay got his first opportunity as a Defensive Coordinator at the collegiate level at St. Augustine’s, where he also coached the Special Teams.

In 2019, he was the Defensive Coordinator at North Carolina Central. The Eagles ranked 17th in the FCS in Total Defense.

Aughtry-Lindsay played Linebacker at NC State from 2001-04, where he was a 2-year starter. In his career with the Wolfpack, he had 266 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

A couple of years later, he came back to Raleigh as a Recruiting Assistant in 2008, and then he took on the role as a Defensive Graduate Assistant the following two seasons.

Aughtry-Lindsay has also served as an Assistant Coach at Slippery Rock (2011 – Linebackers), Elon (2012-13 – Linebackers) and Campbell (2015-17 – Defensive Run Game Coordinator and Linebackers). In 2018, he worked as a Senior Player Personnel Assistant at Ole Miss.

Congrats Freddie!
