NC State Triumphs on the Road, Defeating Wake Forest 90-83

#17 NC State (17-4, 9-1) defeated Wake Forest (8-13, 1-9) 90-83 on the road tonight, securing their sixth consecutive victory and making it 13 wins in their last 14 games.

The Wolfpack struggled at the start, trailing by as much as 8 points in the first quarter and finishing the period down 21-25. With 2:23 left in the first half, NC State took the lead and never relinquished it. From that point to the 4:34 mark in the third quarter, the Wolfpack went on a 21-0 run, putting the visiting team up by 20 points. NC State led by as much as 24 points with 1:04 left in the third quarter. With 1:20 left in the game, the Demon Deacons mounted an 11-0 run, cutting the Wolfpack’s lead to 6. Nevertheless, NC State held on, winning by 7 points.

NC State was extremely efficient tonight, making 53.3% of their shots. They also had 16 assists on 32 made field goals. Unfortunately, the Wolfpack’s defense wasn’t up to the standards of the past couple of games, allowing Wake Forest to shoot 51.6% from the field. NC State out-rebounded the Demon Deacons by 14, had three fewer turnovers, and shot 22 more free throws.

The Wolfpack’s young guard duo led the way, with sophomore Zoe Brooks scoring 18 points (6-12 FG) and freshman Zam Jones adding 17 (6-8 FG). Brooks also led NC State with 5 assists, while Jones contributed 4.

Senior guard Saniya Rivers scored 13 points (5-11 FG).

Freshman center Tilda Trygger also scored 13 points, shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field.

Senior guard Madison Hayes contributed 7 points, led the team with 7 rebounds, and tied for the team lead with 3 steals.

Next up for the Wolfpack is a home matchup against #10 Duke on Monday night at 7pm on ESPN2.
