Former Temple Cornerback Jamel Johnson Signs his NLI to Play for NC State

Today is National Signing Day for the 2025 Football Recruiting Class. Back on December 6th, NC State signed 17 players on the Early National Signing Day.

Former Temple Cornerback Jamel Johnson (5’11″/195) signed his National Letter of Intent to play football for NC State today. He announced he was transferring to run with the Wolfpack on January 6th, after taking an Official Visit the weekend prior.


Johnson was a 3-Star prospect in the Transfer Portal this offseason.

The Wolfpack offered Johnson on January 3rd.

He has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

Johnson started off his career at Charleston Southern, where he played his first two seasons. As a Freshman, he played in 8 games, starting in 3. He had 18 tackles and 4 interceptions (team high). In 2023, Johnson had 47 tackles and 5 pass breakups, starting in every game.

After transferring to Temple last offseason, Johnson started every game for the Owls, and started every game. He had 47 tackles, and led the team with 2 interceptions and 9 pass breakups. His PFF grade of 77.3 was the 2nd highest grade on Temple’s defense. Opposing Quarterbacks only completed 37% of the passes thrown his way this year.

After entering the Portal, Johnson picked up offers from NC State, Houston, Jax State, New Mexico St., Southern Miss, UCONN, UTEP, Arkansas St., UMASS and UNLV.
