The #10 NC State Women’s Basketball team defeated Miami 76-74 last night at Reynolds Coliseum, extending their winning streak to 9 games, but it didn’t come easy.

The Hurricanes held the lead for more time than the Wolfpack (18:03 to 15:51) and also shot better (50.8% to 43.1%). Miami shot 45.5% from three-point range compared to NC State’s 25.9%, making three more from beyond the arc. They even led by 10 at one point.

How did the Wolfpack manage to win the game?

Well, there are a couple of ways you can beat a team when they shoot better than you, and the two most important are second-chance points off of offensive rebounds and points off of turnovers. NC State held the advantage in both categories, resulting in a win.

The Wolfpack was +8 in points off turnovers and +5 in second-chance points.

When you don’t shoot well, effort and hustle can still cook up a victory.

Senior Guard Madison Hayes led the Pack with 19 points, making 6 of her 12 shots from the field, and 4 of 9 from three-point range. Her 19 points tied a season high, and her four made three-pointers set a season high. Hayes crossed a significant milestone, surpassing the 1,000 career points threshold. She also led the team with 7 rebounds.

Senior Guard Aziaha James had 15 points (7-16 FG) and 6 rebounds.

Freshman Center/Forward Tilda Trygger had 10 points (4-7 FG) and 6 rebounds.

Senior Guard Saniya Rivers led the Pack with 5 assists, committing only 1 turnover.

Next up for the Wolfpack is a game in Chapel Hill, against rival #12 UNC at 2 pm on ESPN.
