#13 NC State Run Rules Fordham in Game 1 & 2 on Opening Day of the 2025 Baseball Season

#13 NC State kicked off their 2025 Baseball season today with a double-header against Fordham at Doak Field. The Wolfpack run-ruled the Rams in both contests, winning the first game 11-1 in 8 innings, and the second game 12-2 in 7 innings.

Game 1

In the opener, sophomore Dominic Fritton gave up 0 earned runs (1 unearned) over 4.1 innings, striking out 5 (2 BB’s and 2 HBP’s). Junior Andrew Shaffner was the only pitcher needed out of the bullpen, picking up the win after giving up 0 earned runs in 3.2 innings, striking out 1 (1 HBP).

The Wolfpack allowed 6 hits but had 10 of their own.

The game was close until the 7th inning, with NC State leading 3-1. The Wolfpack then scored 4 runs in both the 7th and 8th innings to end the contest.

Junior right fielder Brayden Fraasman was the only Wolfpack batter with 3 hits, going 3-5 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run. Fraasman transferred from Lincoln Trail College (D-III) this offseason.

Redshirt sophomore designated hitter Drew Lanphere and sophomore first baseman Chris McHugh were the other two NC State batters with multi-hit performances. Lanphere was 2-4 with a double, 2 runs, an RBI, and a walk. McHugh went 2 for 2 with a home run, 3 runs, 2 walks, and an RBI. McHugh transferred in from VCU this offseason.

Sophomore catcher Alex Sosa also hit a home run in Game 1, driving in 3 runs. He also scored 2 runs and took a walk.

Game 2

In the second game of the double-header, sophomore Heath Andrews gave up 2 earned runs over 5 innings, striking out 5 (3 BB’s and 3 HBP’s). Andrews picked up the win. Sophomore Cooper Consiglio pitched two hitless and scoreless innings, striking out 3 (2 BB’s).

Sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon was the only Wolfpack batter with 3 hits in the contest, going 3-4 with 3 runs, 2 RBIs, 2 doubles, and a stolen base.

McHugh and freshman center fielder Ty Head both had 2 hits. McHugh was 2-3 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk. Head went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and a double.

Sophomore left fielder Matt Ossenfort hit a 2-run home run.
