Alabama’s pitching stifled the bats of #12 NC State today in the Jax College Baseball Classic, shutting out the Wolfpack 4-0.

The Wolfpack has now lost three straight games after sweeping Fordham in the season-opening series last weekend.

After averaging 12.5 runs through the first four games, the Wolfpack has been held to a combined total of three runs in their first two games down in Florida this weekend.

The Crimson Tide limited NC State to just three hits today. Given the scarcity of hits, kudos go to the three players who managed to get on base: First Baseman Chris McHugh, Catcher Drew Lanphere, and Center Fielder Ty Head. All three hits were singles.

Sophomore Heath Andrews started for NC State, and he wasn’t the reason the Pack lost, despite taking the loss. Andrews allowed two earned runs over five innings pitched, striking out six. With a pitch count of 89, if Andrews hadn’t walked four batters, he might have been in line for a Quality Start.

After pitching three shutout innings against Liberty on Tuesday, Freshman Anderson Nance allowed two earned runs and four hits in 1.2 innings.

Sophomore Camden Wimbish redeemed himself after a poor outing last weekend. Last Saturday, Wimbish allowed three earned runs in just 0.1 innings. This afternoon, he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out two and walking none.

This is a concerning start to the season for a Wolfpack team that began the season with a ranking, losing three straight games in which they were favored.

NC State has one more chance tomorrow to secure a win before leaving the Sunshine State, with a game against Coastal Carolina at 3 PM.
