The 12th-ranked NC State baseball team lost all four games this week, with the finale being the Wolfpack’s 3-10 loss to Coastal Carolina in their final game at the Jax College Baseball Classic this afternoon.

This weekend, NC State scored a combined 6 runs in three games against Ohio State, Alabama, and Coastal Carolina. Their pitching staff also allowed an average of 7.3 runs per contest.

This afternoon, sophomore Ryan Marohn allowed 6 runs (5 earned) over 5 innings, striking out 6. Marohn was stellar in his first start of the season against Fordham on opening weekend, pitching 5 shutout innings and striking out 7.

Preseason All-American Jacob Dudan (SO) once again didn’t leave a game unscathed, giving up 1 earned run in 1 inning of work and walking 2.

After pitching a combined 3.2 scoreless innings in his first two appearances, sophomore Cooper Consiglio was lit up for 3 earned runs in just 0.2 innings this afternoon, walking 3.

The Wolfpack’s bats were anemic for the second day in a row. Yesterday, NC State only accumulated 3 hits, and today they managed only one more. Two of the four hits were singles, with sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon hitting a double and Fraasman hitting a triple.

The first four batters in the lineup—DeCriscio, Nixon, Fraasman, and Sosa—each had a hit, while the rest of the lineup was rendered hitless.

NC State struck out 10 times and walked only 3 times. That’s not a good ratio.

Though the Wolfpack’s 2 errors today didn’t necessarily cost them the game (leading to two unearned runs), the number of unearned errors NC State’s defense has allowed through 7 games is beyond alarming.

Through 7 games, the Wolfpack have committed 12 errors, allowing 11 unearned runs to cross the plate.

I don’t expect NC State to be ranked in the Top 25 this week, nor do I think they should be. The rough week isn’t a prophecy for a doomed 2025 season. There are a lot of new players on the roster, and quite a few players who have struggled have proven themselves in the past.

Nonetheless, the Wolfpack will have to prove moving forward that they are one of the Top 25 teams in the nation.

NC State will look to get back on track on Tuesday when they host Richmond at 3 PM.
