NC State Shuts Out UNCG 10-0 on the Road, Winning 4th in a Row

Sophomore Cooper Consiglio and Freshman Anderson Nance combined to pitch a shutout this afternoon at UNCG (5-6), propelling NC State (7-5) to a 10-0 victory over the Spartans.

Consiglio was lights out, allowing only one hit in four innings, striking out six, while walking none. His 79 pitches were the third most in his career (85 on April 28 last year). Freshman Anderson Nance pitched five clean innings, allowing no runs and no walks, striking out two. Nance picked up the first win of his collegiate career and now has a 3.44 ERA in four appearances. The five innings and 76 pitches were both career highs.

The Wolfpack’s bats were blazing, recording 12 hits, with half of them being extra-base hits. It was a close game until the 8th inning, with NC State scoring seven of their ten runs in the final two frames.

NC State’s best batter continues to be Sophomore first baseman Chris McHugh, who was 3 for 5 today with three RBIs, two runs, and a home run. Through 12 games, McHugh has a .422 batting average, a .510 on-base percentage, a .667 slugging percentage, and a 1.177 OPS.

Sophomore Catcher Alex Sosa hit his fourth home run of the season, going 1 for 3 with two RBIs, two runs, and two walks.

Junior Outfielder Josh Hogue was 2 for 4, hitting his first home run of the season.

Sophomore second baseman Luke Nixon was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, three runs, and a triple.

NC State has won two consecutive games via shutout and hasn’t committed an error in either game as well.

After losing five in a row, the Wolfpack have a chance to win their fifth consecutive game tomorrow, hosting Campbell at 3 PM.
